Hey! Well zoey has almost completely lost her sucking reflexes. she will only nipple 15 cc at the most out of her bottle. They have a ng tube in right now but it is really irritating her stomach causing her to throw up blood and poop blood. She wont take her enzymes by mouth either and i cant find a way to give them in her tube. I tried crushing them but that isnt working. So my original question....what about a g tube? pros and cons? Will it be removable? Is this something we should discuss with her doctor? she is 5 and a half months old. Will they do it this early? sorry for the questions but im trying to get some answers. Thank you in advance..........Sarah

are you sure the ng tube is causing the irritation? or is it something else? i cant imagine an ng tube causing one to throw up and poop out blood. sounds more like acid problems.

removing a g tube isnt as simple as taking it out and having it close over in a couple of hours. its a big hole that takes a long time to heal, if at all. in some cases they dont completely heal leaving a tunnel leading from the intestine to the outside world. yummy.

They will give g-tubes to any age if they are struggling to gain weight, or if they are physically unable to eat by mouth. Yes, the g-tube can come out when it is not needed. There are different kinds.

Here's some links that might help answer some questions:
