Today it has been a year since Garran received his new lungs. It was about this time in the morning that we received that long awaited call and began his journey to a new life.

I was making breakfast and our coordinator called and said that they had lungs and we should go up to the hospital around 4 pm, to take our time and get things in order. So we called a friend in the area who had also had 2 dbl lung tx's and she came out to lunch with us at Red Robins. while we were there we received another call that we should come sooner up to the hospital. so we headed on up.

at about 2:30 pm we went intot he ER to get checked in. He sat and played with the rest of the kids and got that lovely Go-Lightly. They brought him up to pre-op around 4 pm and at 5 pm they gave him some happy meds before bringing him back. We said our goodbyes and went to the waiting room, only to have them come back a few minutes later saying that it would be a few more hours. so we sat in the Pre-op and played with G for a while, and he wrote on our hands with a skin marker, and on his own face...lol...He made tiger whiskers on his face. lol

At 8:05 pm they took him back, and it was one of the most scary moments I think I have ever felt. He was in surgery for about 6 hours, and then at 4:35 am we were able to go back and see him for the first time with his new lungs.

At 9:53 am they extubated him, and at about 12 pm he was up and walking. He was so brave, and so strong. He is truely my hero.

It has been quite a year since. And I want to thank all of you who have been here for us, and have prayed with us. You have no idea how much it means.

I can't believe it has been a year already as well. I am glad to hear he is doing so well. May he celebrate many more lungiversaries.
