Hi you all. We have been doing great here. Abby had tubes put in her ears at the end of June; we've been on vacation off and on since early June. It has been a really good summer.

At her last clinic appointment, we were told that Abby was doing great as far as nutrition goes (esp. since she is pancreatic sufficient).

In September we will have another follow-up clinic appointment, and Abby will have her first sweat test done. The Dr. said that our future course of action for preventative treatment for Abby will be determined by the sweat test results. I should have asked what that meant. I was just trying to wrap my head around the why behind having a sweat test done when we have a positive genetic test. I guess to just see how things are progressing? My only thought is that there are folks out there with borderline or even normal sweat test results who are symptomatic. Hum....

Can anyone tell me how sweat tests are usually done, what I should expect at the appointment, etc.?

Thanks in advance! I hope everyone is doing well. It seems like years since I have posted.

hmmm... If she has a genetic diagnosis then why wouldn't they give her preventative care? I would rather take a proactive approach than a reactive one!

Are you seeing a doctor at a CF Clinic that is on the cff.org list?

We use Emory/CHOA in Atlanta.

We do preventative care, I just didn't understand if we might increase or decrease or change the preventative care depending on the results. I can only assume that is what he meant.

Does seem odd, although our local CF clinic recently became accreditted and they wanted to do both a genetic test and sweat test on DS... We indicated both had been done -- the blood test at their facility.

DS's sweat test was pretty simple. They applied bands on both of his arms. Looked like little braclets and then after a set time removed them. We got the test results back later that afternoon. His was a normal 32, although at the time he was only 3 weeks old and in the NICU. Probably didn't get a good enough sample 'cuz he's pretty salty these days <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
