GENERIC PULMOZYME

On the phone for the last 2 hrs trying to fill a prescpition for my sons pulmozyme. They are telling me that can't fill it, because they can only fill the generic form of pulmozyme. WTH!!! There is no generic!!! RIGHT????

Unless it is new...I don't think there is a generic.

I'd say fine, send me the generic...and when you find out there is no generic, send me the Pulmozyme!

It has a generic NAME, which is Dornase Alfa; however, I believe it's an orphan drug and therefore no generic ones yet.

Thanks Teri.....If Cysticfibrosis.com had a like button, I would click it! OMG....Never have I had such bad service. Our insurance switched from Medco to Caremark. WOW, WOW!! Going to give them until tomorrow to fill this. If not I'm going to try using Cystic Fibrosis Pharmacy. I only need his pulmozyme filled, not a bunch of drugs. Didn't epect it to be such a big issue.

Don't get "generic pulmozyme." It's a totally different drug. If I recall correctly it's more like prescription mucomyst than pulmozyme. It doesn't have the dornase enzyme and can dry out your lungs too much, causing breathing difficulty and making it harder to cough anything up. My doc had a fit when the insurance company tried to switch me a few years ago.
