Generic Zoloft?

Wow was i surprised when i went to pick up my prescription for Zoloft today only to find they gave me the generic brand....Sertraline.
I dont know why i dislike some things being generic and this is one of them. I know generics have the same active ingredient as the brand name, but i always wonder what the heck else is in it that makes it so much cheaper than the name brand. I remember when my pharmacy gave me generic Cipro a while back and it made me soooooo nauseas. I asked my doctor to write a letter of medical necessity so i could get the brand name that never made my stomach sick. As soon as i went went back on the name brand, the nauseas feeling was gone. Anyone take the generic brand of Zoloft ? I am a creature of familiarity.... i dont like change very much when it comes to certain things. When i take something that works well, for a few years.. i hate when someone goes and changes it on me.

Generic meds are not always straight on (I don't know how common it is, but it happens), and generic zoloft just started selling last month, so if there are any problems there hasn't really been enough time for them to come to light. I agree, Zoloft isn't really a medication I'd want to be playing around with, either.

I remember a few years ago we CFs were told not to buy generic enzymes....does anyone else remember this & what was the logic behind this? I just assumed the generics were sub-standard?

I think I remember reading that there were no fda requirments for enzymes, or at least no standards? I dunno, if some of the name brand enzymes don't agree with you, you can imagine that the generic ones won't be any better.

And ya, zoloft has been selling in canada as sertraline since...forever. If there were any problems with it, I'm sure we would have heard anything

I just switched to generic zoloft and it's fine, I don't notice a difference. (Except it is cheaper... woohoo!!!)

I HAVE had a bad experience with generics before though... The brand name medicine I took was yellow and not a problem... the generic was red and I ended up having an allergic reaction (a bad one, went to the ER). Probably the dye although nothing red has affected me since. I am always cautious when they switch me like that.

Supposedly, pancreatic enzyme products are going to be regulated in 2007. So if
you get your PEPS at the health food store, stock up now!

Thanks for all the responses !<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I am especially glad to hear from Ender and Katie who have had some experience with it . Well Ender said it has been in Canada for just about forever , not that he's taking it. I hate when my pharmacy just switches stuff on me like that and i know it isnt just them its the requirement of my insurance co. But when push comes to shove i usually can get what i want out of them when it comes to medicines. Especially the Cipro. When they at first refused to give me the brand name because the generic caused my stomach to feel so upside down, my doctor told them ( the insurance co.) that the name brand would be cheaper than putting me on iv's every time i would normally cycle onto Cipro. That took care of that, i got the brand name cipro without a prob. My insurance is definitely not the best one out there, since i am on disability, i have medicade. Sometimes you just have to think a step ahead of them . Although all generics have the same ACTIVE ingredient, thay do have some different inert ingredients .

Well I havent taken the generic zoloft just the regular but if there is a generic out there for a drug my insurance makes me have it. I have done fine on all generic the only one i had a problem with was the enzymes, which is prob because they arent FDA so they are not help up to the same standars. But wow lets just say they didnt do a thing for me!!! It was a bad couple of days!

I just started taking generic zoloft. It may not be enough time to tell since I started using it instead of the name brand, but so far I haven't seen any changes. I haven't gotten any stomach pain from it, which with Zoloft I did. So, it seems pretty good to me.
