Hi everyone. I was wondering, has anyone actually had the ambry genetic testing done? And if so, how expensive is it? My little girl is 3 and has CF.. i know i am a carrier.. but her "dad" (who is not her biological father) doesn't know if he has it or not.. and we want him to get tested, but i only want the best one we can get. Unfortunately we live in a tiny town and don't have alot offered here, so i want him to have his results sent in there.. i have looked at the site and they accept our insurance but it doesn't give a price. Just wondering if anyone had any good advice, thanks!

My husband had this test done this past summer. It was charged to our insurance (which paid 100%), but I believe the bill to the insurance company was a little over $3,000. You could post a message to Steve, the ambry guy on this site and get some information.

I spoke to someone at Ambry about having the testing done for my daughter. We wanted to order it on our own, her doctors are giving us quite a run-around. I was told that it would be $1595.00, if we did not have insurance cover it. They did tell me that the results would have to be sent to a doctor though, because they are so complicated to read. Good luck!

You might be able to get your OB to give you a referral to a geneticist for carrier screening, etc. In that case you might get the insurance to cover the whole bill. If I were an insurance company I'd prefer to cover the testing now to help prevent another CF child being born and costing them a great deal more in coverage. But who knows, they often don't make decisions I would make. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">
