anyone heard of gentamicin? Just came across this while doing some research and was wondering if it's available and/or used by cf community.

It's an IV antibiotic, i've never used it personally. But in terms of it works, that's a very individual thing. Some people have bacteria that are suseptable and some have bacteria that are resistant to aminoglycosides. That just depends on the bacteria that you're treating.

I used to use the inhaled form of gentamycin approx 11 years ago & felt that it did a good job for me personally. I'm not sure if it's even available in the inhaled form anymore.

Its available. I used it a lot last year before switching to colistin. Used it probably 10 years or so. Last few years it didn't seem to do anything.

Gentamycin is no longer widely used because of its extreme ototoxicity. You'd be hard pressed to find a doc who will give this to you, especially if you've already shown sensitivities to Tobi and Colistin.

There are safer drugs out there. If you don't need gentamycin, don't ask for it.
