Georgia Wildfires

We live in Alabama about 1 hour from the Georgia line. Well I got up this morning and looked outside and there is a haze of smoke. I can smell it and see it. I am a little concerned for my son. I know he probably does not need to go outside to play but I have to go to town today. Anyone else having this problem? I can only imagine what it looks like closer to the fires. What do you do in situations like this? Does anyone know how long it will be before they get the fires out? We have my daughter a big outside birthday party planned for Saturday and now I am getting a little worried about it!

Carrie,

I live in Auburn Alabama and the smoke has made its way up here too. I was in Atlanta yesterday and it was horrible. I am coughing more today and I think its because of the smoke. It is advised that people with respiratory illnesses stay indoors. I usually exercise outdoors but I am not going to until this smoke is gone. I would definately not breath hard in it. Hope it rains where you are soon!

I live in Atlanta and boy was yesterday rough. I made sure not to go outside much at all because the smoke was so bad. It was so thick, too, that I couldn't believe it was from the wildfires. It seemed like it had to be coming from across the street considering how strong it was.

I've felt kinda crappy today and I think it has to do with the smoke. I would definitely advise staying inside, but hopefully the wind will change directions again and it won't be as bad.

We're thinking of all the people in southern Georgia and northern Florida!

I'm in Alabama (Gardendale), too, and this morning it looked like there was a fire in our neighborhood, instead of the smoke blowing in from another state- it was horrible and thick and coming in in waves from the east when I went out to get the paper! I try to stay in on days like this (here lately especially), but today was errand day, sign up for water aerobics at the local college day, and it's our 15th wedding anniversary, so I blew that strategy today, and I am so gunked up tonight- oh well- I will be staying in as much as possible (like all day tomorrow). My daughter (no cf) is getting a little aggravated that she can't go out on the deck and play with the new sand in her sandbox, though.... I can't imagine living near those fires!

Our local weather stations have been having info about how long it's expected to last, and what times of the day it's the worse (cleared up a bit this afternoon, and that's when I went to do groceries and register for class). Check the internet sites like abc3340 and nbc 13 and they should have some info. 3340 usually has a blog about it...
