I am not familiar with teh avent but I, after buying a germ guardian, did this study.

Also here is a video from CFF about cleaning the cayston equipment, I havent watched it but I just saw it posted and thought it may answer a question or two.

Oh and for the record I now use a pasta pot and boil with water I buy so it doesnt have the junk to clog things up.

Germ Guardian does NOT reach the temperature needed to sterilize. It's a 'dry' heat that needs to be sustained longer than it does to sufficiently kill germs, esp if stuff goes in wet. Avent reaches 212* and uses steam, a proven sterilization method.

Re. the youtube link: I recommend everyone watch it, whether you use the Altera or not. HOORAY!!! We finally got some input from the CFF from these bottle sterilizers! This really makes me happy... plug in (NOT microwave) bottle sterilizers like the Nuk (that is the one demonstrated) are what is recommended. Fortunately, it wasn't worded in a way excluding anything but Nuk- Avent is good too.

I am so glad to see that they have finally spoken on this!

I came here this morning hoping to find out this exact thing!
Awesome video and instructions. I just got my Altera and free NUK. So this is new territory for me.
Though I have to say, I'm feeling a little bit overwhelmed by my new daily cleaning regimen here...
but gotta do what you gotta do I guess.
