I am thinking about getting the Avent Sterlizer for my neb pieces for my eflow instead of boiling them on the stove but what is the difference between the Germ Guardian and the Avent? Can I just get the Germ Guardian????

I seem to recall that the Germ Guardian failed to reach the appropriate temperatures for sterilizing. Someone posted these on the blog a year or so ago.

The main difference in how the two work:
Germ Guardian: dry heat
Avent IQ (and the new Nuk sterilizer): steam

Germ Guardian does not reach a high enough temperature to sterilize, esp. to kill germs on surfaces that have gone in wet (which is not it's intended use.) Steam (these sterilizers reach 212*) is a proven method of sterilization.

Mom2Lillian posted a link from the CFF on this thread in adults: CFF recommendations re. steam sterilizers This is specifically in reference to cleaning the Altera but steam sterilizers get the OK from the CFF here. I was so happy to see they finally officially have something to say about this! The NUK is featured but is not stated to be the only approved choice.

I didn't want to start a new post....I hope you don't mind. I agree with the previous post. I would not have a Germ Guardian exclusively.

I just got the AventIQ sterilizer today and am disappointed to see that the "water reservoir" is hidden and you can't get to it. How on earth do you clean that and make sure that it is not growing "stuff"? I may take it back and get the Nuk cuz it looks like you have access to the reservoir.
