germ worries

The regular peds department still has toys in the waiting room, books in the exam rooms. I pretty much use the hand sanitizing foam after he's done and try to make sure there isn't any nose to mouth contact when Max goes hunting for boogers.

I guess I'd tell the therapists your concerns because there could be some children attending the clinic who are disabled and might have staph or mrsa... See if you could just bring along your own toys for them to use. Otherwise bring along wet ones or hand sanitizer.

Let me just say that I know I probably sound like a germaphobe and maybe I am to a certain extent but I am not too concerned with Danny catching a cold or something little like that. Its the bigger stuff I'm worried about. He had such a rough start and now he is doing so well. Maybe I'm just waiting for it all to come crashing down?

I think your worries are normal. You can't be a new parent in the CF world and NOT be bombarded by messages to fear the invisible things. But germs have been around for some time, and as Emily and Wuffles state, CFers have been playing with communal toys too - going to school, essentailly not being in a bubble. Its hard as a parent to sit back and let what happens happens. But we can only do so much. And eventually they have to go out in the world. UGGH, I do feel your pain, I'm dealing with it here too!!

I know it's hard not to freak out, but I'd jsut wash his hands and/or sanitize them, and don't really worry too much. Or try lol. Like others have said, Cfers grew up with communal toys, and they did well. My husband did all the dirty, germy, delightful stuff, and he was doing really well until he caught cepacia (Which I highly doubt you'd find in that waiting room)

It's hard for moms, but sometimes you have to take simple precautions, but try not to go overboard

I know exactly how you're feeling. I get the same feeling when my daughter goes to the CF Clinic. At the end of the day though you've got to get that balance right. I've noticed that when I'm stressed my daughter picks up on it and that isn't good for her. Don't worry (says she the biggest worrier of all!).

Take care.

I agree with some of the others, it's not going to kill him. The chances of him getting anything besides a cold is very slim. And think, school is going to be ten times worse. So might as well get used to it now.
