I have never been pregnant, but for the past year I have been on a no sugar, low carb diet due to pre-CFRD. (Also gluten & dairy free) At first I lost a few pounds, but then gained about 15 on this diet!! Sugar is so bad for us anyways (causes inflammation). Here are some suggestions for food with high fat, moderale/low carb to prevent high blood sugars

All nut varieties (macadamia nut, cashew, almond, pistachio, walnut, etc) & their butters: Peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, macadamia butter (found cheaper at trader joe's or whole foods) has 24g fat in aTBSP
Olive oil on EVERYTHING! salads, chicken, etc. I use a ton, & you may need to increase enzymes
Flax oil on salads
Avacados, guacamole
Sweet potatoes and white potatoes (sweet potatoes are a complex carb & better than white when in comes to controlling blood sugar) & lots of butter
I need to eat a LOT of protein (fish, chicken, etc) with my potatoes, rice, etc. to prevent high blood sugars. Sometimes I put ranch dressing on my meats or fishes.
Beans (pinto & black are my fav) & refried beans
For my sweet cravings, I eat apples, pears, dried fruit from Trader Joes that has no added sugar. Fruit with lots of fiber are best.
Any foods with high fiber will prevent high blood sugars, so all bran cereal, popcorn, kashi creals, etc
Look for protein bars that you like as well. The only one I can have is Larabar & Clif Nectar. These have some sugar in them, however the source is dates, which is a natural sugar, so it does not give me problems.

Hope this helps some. Also, try to stay away from sugar free candy-so bad for anyone!! Especially you & your baby. It caused me massive stomach cramps & diarrhea. I do have 1 diet coke a day. Diet sprite is good too.
Chipotle is a great fast food option-loaded with protein, calories, & good quality meats-I do the rice bowl since I cannot eat the tortilla-very filling & fattening once you add the guacamole.
I hope this helps you & you can gain some weight-it takes time to figure out what works for you. I was in shock when I had to change to this no sugar, allergy free diet! But, It is so easy now! Plus, I was gaining weight like I never had before.

at first I tried no artificial sweetners but I just couldnt do it so I did have some but I founda bit of dark chocolate or a smidge of ice cream with dinner did not put me over my carbs if I did it right and was much more enjoyable.

ill just list some of my staples here (keep in mind I am PS and could stand to loose some weight but I will try listing some of the higher cal ones)

whole grain toast with peanut buttter almond butter or cashew butter
toast with sliced cheese is good too but not a favortie of mine
piece of fruit with string cheese or some nuts
popcorn (amazingly has a low glycemic index effect for me and my nutritionist said many others too)
you might try making egg bars and see if its ok I mix eggs spinach cheese spices and bake then cut, freeze, and reheat as needed
hummus with veggies (you could fatten up the hummus)
I found two kashi cereal with high protein that I could eat one serving of with milk
there are some high protein pastas that you can have if mixed with appropriate amoutn meat sauce etc

wow I have forgotten alot, I will try to post some more ideas but will have to think on it

also I found my tolerance for carbs changed as the pregnancy progressed and I was able to eat alot more carbs the further along I got so dont feel obligated to stick to their certain # cabrs as that is just a guideline as long as your blood sugars are fine you can experiment.

I know its alot of work but since every few years they change their mind as to whether the oral meds and insulin have effects on the children I felt it worthwhile to work to keep it in control without them (though there were times I would have killed for a big does of insulin and an indulgent meal <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">).
