getting a port on friday

My port was the smartest thing I ever did. Conscious sedation was a lot of fun...great buzz !! However I was very sore for a few days after, so make sure they give you something for a few days after. Most important thing is to make sure you flush the port every month, keep the area clean with antibacterial soap. Other than that you will be glad you got this !!

Hey Erin!

First and foremost GOOD LUCK!! Trust me, this is the best decision you'll make with regard to CF! I got my port placed a year ago and it was the best choice I've ever made. I actually got the idea and courage to do it through this site. I didn't even know it existed!

When I woke up I remember discomfort, like a little heaviness on my chest, but I didn't wake up in like excrutiating pain by any means. The first day or 2 coughing did hurt a bit, but nothing that a pain killer couldn't handle. Just make sure to ask for something, don't let them send you home telling you to take Tylenol. They tried telling me that and my mom pushed for Percocet when she spoke to the doctor afterwards. It's always nice to have it just in case. I also didn't have a problem with the placement. He told me exactly where he was going to put it and that is precisely where it was when I woke up. There weren't any surprises.

Let us know how things go! I'll keep you in my thoughts on Friday! :)

wow, guys, thank you SO MUCH for the support with this! I am so glad I posted something.

I'm sitting here going back and forth thinking, "this will be so great in the long run-no more PICC lines!" and "oh gosh...am I really ready for this?" and after reading your responses, I'm feeling a lot calmer.

Thank you guys so very, very much!!
