Getting pregnant again...IVF/PGD

Right, right Julie, I knew that, but from an anti-abortion standpoint, it's all the same, or worse, as LauraLou feels. I'm pro-choice myself, but I do think people should know that IVF brings with it that moral consequence if they are opposed to abortion.

And Deb, I know that adoption doesn't guarantee you a perfect kid. Trust me, mine was being a pain this morning Why is it that kids reject coats when its freezing?? But with adoption, you aren't chancing your child suffering because of a choice you made. Instead, you adopt a kid who needs you as much as you need them.

Also, I'm sure most of you know this, (if you know me at all), but I wanted to add that me saying that IVF involves the same idea as abortion is not my endorsement of playing genetic Russian Roulette. I only brought it up because she said she was morally against abortion, and I didn't want her to unknowingly compromise her morals.

And sofeesmom, if you do so choose to go forward with adoption or look into it, Pm me, and I'll do my best to help.

OKay, I'm done now

Laura Lou,

I have to ask, if one of these embroys provided insight into CF research that lead to a cure, would that change you opinion? I realize there are many different opinions on this and I respect yours but that's just the way I look at it.</end quote>

Personally, I don't have a problem with that - but then I don't believe that life starts at conception.

What I meant was, if someone believes that life does start at conception and is against disgarding embryos (which is similar to anti-abortion), then surely they would also be against experimenting on an embryo.

I hope I explained that better

Carla,
I'm feeling very conflicted about this issue, since I am a CF mommy, so I might just ramble some thoughts here.
Speaking as fellow Christian, your decision is tough because the desire for our families to grow is natural.
IVF is a method where many eggs are fertilized, the non CF zygotes are then selected and the others are discarded.
From a pro-life stand-point (we don't like the term anti-abortionist), the believe is that life begins at conception, therefore, we need to respect all those lives, no matter how small or immature.
Also that means that the issue of research is also questionable. I can definately understand wanting a cure to be found through any means possible, but sometimes just because we can do it, doesn't mean it's necessarily right.
In the end the solution is to search your heart, your faith and pray. I hope your family finds the answers, you're searching for.
