getting together with parents that also have kids with cf question

My husband and I get together with another couple that has a child with cf whom we met at a CFF event a year ago. We do not get the kids together EVER. Their 6 year old daughter has cultured pseudomonas recently. Our daughter who is 17 months old so far has not. We usually have them over after our kids are sleeping for the night for a drink..to talk...
We are going out to dinner with them in a few weeks and they want to drive. Should we meet them at the restuarant or is it ok to drive in their car...It might sound like a silly question and you may think we're being paranoid...we don't know what to do....Is their car infected with Pseudomonas?!?!?

I realize pseudomonas can live on surfaces for long periods of time, but being that the children don't have any contact with each other, I would think it would just be a matter of washing your hands properly after you go out.

I wash my hands when I walk in the door of our house -- whether I've been out to the grocery store and touching germy carts, at work, out to eat...

IMO, I wouldn't worry about it, although I realize it's probably easier said than done. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> L

I know how you feel...I am very careful about what my son comes into contact with. I dont think you are risking your childs health just by riding in their car. Just like Liza said....just give your hands a good wash and maybe change your clothes as soon as you get back home. It must be nice to have friends that understand just what cf is all about.....I think you are fortunate!!

Driving in the car with the parents shouldn't be a problem. I meet with mothers (mothers group with chn w/cf) on a regular basis and we go over eachothers house, we just don't bring our kids. That has not been a problem or concern for us. We have been doing this for over a year and find it very theraputic, as we can share our thouht's and feelings.
EG, if they were to come to my house, i will have my daughter home but they do not bring their kids over and vice verca.
I'm aware that Pseudo realy only spread from one cf child to another. Not from mum/dad to ths child. Well its highly unlikely.
To teel you the truth, i'm more concerned going to clinic with my child and other cf children there, than meeting and spending time with there parents.

i received cf newsletter this morning from the cf foundation. it states psuedonomas can "live" for up to one hour on hard surfaces. hope that helps.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My 12 year old step son has culturered psuedonomas and I have a 9 month old baby also.
The CF doc told us not to worry about it, just make sure everyone washes their hands and for our 12 year old not to cough in his face.
It's been nine months of them living in the same house and the baby has not culturered it yet.
They also told me that psuedonomas is everywhere, and practically unavoidable. No idea how our 12 year old got it, he has never been around another child with CF (that we know of) but has had it since he was four.
I think as long as you make sure every one washes their hands your child won't come in contact with it. At least not from their child.
