getting your infant on a schedule...

Your baby is soooo cute! I tried and tried to get mine on a schedule and he wouldn't have it...in fact the harder I tried, the more it seemed to work against me. I did not get him sleeping through the night or on any kind of schedule until he was 4 months old. He got his days and nights confused several times, which takes 2-3 days to undo. I was pretty much at his mercy no matter what I tried. Hopefully you'll have better results. I was giving mine rice cereal at 3 weeks old and that actually seemed to help. I gave him a bottle full right before "bedtime", and sometimes it worked. Good Luck!

Dori - CF carrier DF508/mom to Brandon, 16 months, carrier/soon to be mom of Brett, who will be born with CF.

tina first let me say she is precious! aj will be three weeks tomorrow. he does the same thing. he's up every 2-3 hours to eat. he's only up to 2 1/2 oz though. his poor little tummy is senstive too. aj is on the hypoallergenic formula though he couldn't tolerate the soy based stuff. he pretty much sleeps all day long and all night long. there are only brief periods of time when he's awake. he even tries to sleep when we are feeding him so we mess with him to wake him up <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">. aj hates a bath...he screams bloody murder!! i feel so bad once i'm done. hopefully you find some relief soon! i'm starting to take naps when aj does. pretty much the only time i get sleep lol. right now it's nap time for me though!

Thanks for all the advice/tips...... I pretty much figured that she is still too tiny to even be thinking about schedules yet, but I was wondering because on some of the baby websites I go to, they have said babies can start to differentiate night and day starting as early as 2 weeks of age! I found that HARD to believe! During the day for example, if she wants to sleep, SHE SLEEPS! And she falls asleep so easily too. My Aunts told me to try and talk to her and show her things around the house - when I talk to her and hold her, she falls asleep. Or she just likes to be held.. A LOT! I love holding her but if she's awake and I put her down, she cries & fusses. She's 3 weeks old so she isn't capable of "playing" yet either. So when Kenny goes back to work for 12 hour days, I'm kind of like "what do i do with her ALLLL day?"

She was having real problems with her formula too.... and after a few horrible days of her screaming in pain with EVERY feeding, we figured out she can't have milk based formula.. she needs soy formula. So that has helped a bit and she is much more happy.

PS - we made a picture website for her pics - it's www.littlebrianna.com

I suggest that you get yourself a sling so you can hold her and do other things if she needs to be held all the time. Something simple like a pouch sling (for example, a Hotsling) and then she can feel like she's being held and you can have your hands free - even just to relax or type on the computer. You can feed her bottles in there too if you want.

And a word of advice - take what you read on the internet or even in books, especially parenting websites, with a grain of salt. I've seen lots of inaccurate information from so called "experts". And every baby is different.

Sounds like you're doing just fine with everything - soon you will find your rhythm.
