GI issues ? and a genetic testing ?

Could you tell me - if GI issues are present with CF do they vary at all? Does it occasionally get better for a day or so with no obvious reason why?

Sometimes Chloe will pass a stool that looks more normal, or will even go a day now and then without going several times a day (more like once or twice). Any thoughts?

ETA- I also noticed that sometimes (like last week) Chloe eats everything in sight but then this week she acts like she could care less about eating.

Also- CAN a pediatrician order the Ambry Amplified test or does a specialist have to do it?

Hi,

Not sure about the test, I think any doctor can order it.

As far as eating habits, this is very normal for any child with or without CF. For my 4 kiddos, the bigger deal I made about it, the worse it was at times. As long as they eat a good variety of food, the amounts they eat will vary from week to week, even from day to day sometimes. Pretty soon you might notice a pattern where you get eaten out of house and home and the next morning someone has grown by an inch or more. This isn't a problem for "normal" kids but we tend to worry about our CFers because they have such higher calorie needs.

I agree with Patty, I think that any doc can order the test.
Also, if she's not eating as much, she probably won't be stooling as much. DS will go through bouts of stooling really greasy 3-4 times a day and then back to once or twice a day with stools looking fine, but then again, he is on enzymes, which if I remember right, your DD isn't.

thanks. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> She isn't on enzymes. Her GI won't treat a condition he doesn't know she has.

I am taking several pictures to his office today of her poop. I think he just doesn't believe me. He told us to come back in two months!! He noted on his chart that I got upset when he said he wasn't going to do a scope "even though he made me aware of the risks" - yeah, he had been saying all month that it was the next step to find out what is wrong. I was prepared for him to do it then but because when we got there she had gained a pound he decided that it wasn't necessary, see ya later. Who wouldn't be upset?? Her fecal fat levels were normal but her stools are incredible bulky. The CF clinic there (listed on the CF site) said that CF patients do not have mucus filled stools that they only have greasy stools. When we were sent to the allergy clinic they put on her chart that she has been exposed to second smoke - which she never has! I just want to get out of that hospital.
