I started my IV meds last week... I usually end up with a yeast
infection by the end of  the third or forth week. Any
suggestions on how I can prevent this?

You can ask the doc for a scrip for diflucan (sp??). If you get them in the 3rd or 4th week you should probably wait a little while to take it, but it can't hurt to have it on hand. Also eat lots of yogurt, it has the active cultures you need to keep things in balance down there.

I swear by acidophilous (they are pills that you can get in either a vitamin store or health food store)-I start taking them as soon as I start the antibiotics through the end of them. I take about 2-4 pills per day, depending. They really really help.

You can also eat yogurt, or there is acidophilous milk that you can drink. Hope that helps!

Like everyone has mentioned, eat lots of yogurt, avoid tight constricting clothing. Wear pants that are breathable, and wear cotton undies. Food that is high in sugar can also cause yeast infections, so avoid a lot of sugar.

Hello I need to ask something about CF:

Do any of you women get more mucus in your peiord then blood? I have this issue where I get this thick mucus in my peiord and not very much blood. Also I get peiords where they stay for 2 days and then live. and then I get my PMS all over in 3 days and the mucus and blood comes back. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

From another thread I wrote:

I am only a carrier (son has CF) but have been having chronic yeast issues on and off for most of my 20-30's. I got so sick of it (as no over the counter stuff works and I am not a fan of drugs), I read up on what I could do naturally. Apparently it grows elsewhere and can be systemic, causing issues and damage to other organs. I thought the book "Conquering Yeast Infections: A non-drug approach for men and women" by Colet Lahoz was great. www.wholeapproach.com has book, supplies, recipes and lots of information on yeast iinfections.

I've been doing the program for about 2 weeks and feel much better. Felt like crap from the die-off the first week, but my symptoms "down there" ;-) are subsiding for the first time in 6 months. I am also doing acupuncture to help and watching diet big time (no sugar, bread, alcohol) until I feel I am stable. So far so good.

I feel especially with as much as most CFers take antibiotics probiotics (Primal Defense is suppose to be awesome, I use one for vaginal and urinary tract specifically) and may want to do a cleansing system periodically. More than likely there is overgrowth in the digestive system all the time and when on antibiotics it just becomes acute and shows up in the vagina as well.

You can also insert a moistened acidophilus capsule into the vagina for acute situations. Some people find a douche with just distilled water and a drop of tree tree oil (very little) helpful as well. It has antifungal properties but some find it irritating to the tissues.

Hope this helps. It is a bummer though...doesn't make you feel "fresh and confident" like the Summer's Eve commercial that's for sure!
