Hello there!I am wondering if anyone else gets lung infections when they have their menstral cycle... it seems that ever since i started having them (about 2.5 years now) i get a lung infection and am on IV antibiotics... It seems that if my weight is low enough to stop me from having my period then i don't get a lung infection i just get bogged down and tired from having no weight. My weight is fine right now and i am getting my period again BUT i keep ending up on IV antibiotics with every one again.. i am on birth control which has helped quite a bit but not enough... anyone have any ideas on what to do? or if anyone else can relate that would be great to know about. Oh yeah and i was wondering if there is anyone from Canada (BC espceially) who knows the criteria for getting tubes tied (such as age and condition)? Hope everyone is doing good!

Menstral cycles are infamous for flaming up CF problems. You are more likley to have joint pains and arthritis problems. This is common for us to get infections, so you are not alone. You should mention this to your doc and see what they have to offer you. How old are you? This is something that an adult CF specialist would have more experiance with. Also, you may benifit from insulin treatment if you have undiagnosed CF related diabeties. Regular insulin use helps gain, and keep weight, and usually lung functions improve, as well as energy level and sleep. Odds are that it is when your weight is low, you still have a lung infection deserving IVs. You should do some research about the antibiotics you are on, you shouldn't be on IVs each time you have a period, and I know your docs are doing their best, but it's easy for them to fall into routien. Also, these antibiotics are going to affect you birth contorl. You may want to try the Depo-provera shot. YOu only have to worry about it once a month, and since it dosen't go through the digestive system, it's less likely to interact with your other meds. Also, since I've been taking it, I haven't had a period, and it's a normal response. As far as getting your tubes tied, if you are doing it as a birth control precaution because you have been advised not to have children you shouldn't have a problem, but they may wait until your eighteen if you're not yet.Debbie
