Glutathione and Mucomyst

I've been taking NAC for about month now, 1800 mg/day. It took me about three weeks to really notice any differance with my breathing. It is supposed to be a anti-inflamitory, and while I feel I can breathe deeper I haven't noticed a differance in tightness. At about 2 weeks I started notice more of change in my sputum production though, I seem to be able to cough up things nearly every time I cough, small coughs and coughing fits. I don't cough up alot at once but before I rarely coughed anything out unless it was right there.

I originally read it in an artcle on the Stanford study, it was the dose they were giving, and then Amy's Warwick blog. I figured that's what I would start at and see what would happened.

Here is a warning about who should/should not take GSH, based on Dr. Bishop's info.

"NOTE: GSH use should not be attempted in CF patients who culture Burkholderia cepacia, or who have a history of hemoptysis/pneumothorax, or whose FEV1 is less than 30% predicted, or who have undergone a lung or other type of transplant, until such time as research has been performed to decide whether use under such conditions is safe."

A link with a few details about dosage from Dr. Bishop:

Since none of this is "scientific" yet, I just wanted to say be careful and pay very close attention to your bodies when you're anything new like this. I took OO a while back to see if it would help, and I didn't like how it made me feel. Is started wheezing, so I stopped. That could have been for other reasons, but I wasn't sure so I stopped it. Anyways....I do hope the Glutathione helps you Lindsey and HariGirl! Wouldn't that be great? Please keep us posted!

Lindsey, fyi - when I started the GSH I was at 46% FEV1.

Good luck!!

I decided to take 500mg/day (Glutathione pill) for 1 week, increase to 1,000mg/day on week #2, then at 1 month I increased to 1,500mg/day. This was actually based on someone else on this site doing that for over 1 year and liking it. I didn't want to take too much but I didn't want to not take enough either. I had heard if you take too much NAC it can be toxic, but GSH is not. So that was part of my reasonings for just starting on the GSH only. It's such uncharted territory really, that I mainly just wanted to be safe but still try. I figured someone else's personal experience was better then just guessing. That's how I went about it.

Hey Kelly and Chris

Thanks for the info and sharing your experiences.

Also Kelly - I also tried the OO and noticed it made me wheeze as well. I was okay for the first 2 weeks and then I started to notice wheezing. I stopped the OO and it gradually went away.

I still have OO pills that I take on occasion but I do not take them regularly as I am not to comfortable with the way they effect me after that first experience- but I figure pills are better than anything inhaled.

Well I am off to get my walking in. Thanks again to everyone that has replied so far. I look forward to reading more as hopefully more people reply.

That warning is meant for those who are considering inhaling GSH. The oral is a different story. I contacted Dr. Bishop AND Valerie about using it orally and they both said it shouldnt be a problem . I have cepacia AND hemoptysis problems which is what originally led me to try GSH in the first place.
