very few doctors will order an extended panel until they've first completed a cheaper, less comprehensive panel. The cheaper, less comprehensive panels only test for a small fraction of mutations. A negative on these panels doesn't mean anything except that your child does not have the mutations you tested for. </end quote>

this part blows my mind. it's not like the doc is paying for it. the patient pays. so why would the doc care?

i don't know why they do sweat testing at all. too much variability.

want to know if someone has CF? get a full CF gene panel right off the bat.

why mess around?????

Sakasuka, it's the insurance companies, actually. Plus, with the exception of some specialists, a lot of doctors just do not realize that a negative on a basic carrier panel does not rule out CF. After my baby niece was diagnosed with echogenic bowel in utero, they did a basic carrier test on my sister. It was negative. The very highly respected perinatologist told my sister there was no way her baby could have CF since she wasn't a carrier!! Obviously, she was very wrong....

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions. I have actually just tried to relax about it all. We go back tomorrow at 12 for a repeat sweat test. My husband and I just know that whatever happens is meant to be and there is no changing it. I really appriciate all the thoughts and suggestions!

Hello Everyone! Thanks for EVERYTHING! Today we went for Zakary's repeat sweat test and got results of 13!!! We are so happy that they were good results this time since the last were 46. They mentioned possible repeating the test in about a year to confirm. We are so excited today. Still a little nervous because there was a high score and a low score! But for now I am just going to stay positive and keep a VERY close eye on him!
Again, THANK YOU SO Much for everything and I am still thinking and praying for you guy!
