Going to the Zoo. Is it a bad idea??

My opinion might not be popular but for what it is worth...

<br />I would go to the zoo but keep your baby away from any areas with still water. Having older kids use Purell is a good advice, but PA grows in still water and our hospital advised us to keep our dd w/CF more than 3 feet from any ponds, lakes, reservoirs etc.

<br />IMHO you can have fun at the zoo without risking your baby's health, I just went there with my 2.5 y/o. My dd had PA when she was 1.5 y/o, belive me it is not fun.

YES!!! GO to the zoo and enjoy LIFE! It will be important as your child grows to see that you treat them as normal as possible-if you show fear, they will be fearful.

Its great you are asking questions-no question too silly or stupid because knowledge is POWER! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Control what you can-bring sanitizer, etc but live and enjoy.

As scary as it can be it is important for you to do all you can to live as normal as possible-so the kids see, it is possible! I can remember, years and years ago..(I am now 43) my mother used to have to shut the front door when i was playing outside with my freinds and be on the bottom of the football pile, etc (she told me this when I was much older that she was afrid id suffocate) but she forced herself to let me be a normal kid. And it worked!!

I am now an official Nike Athlete and play football with my own 6 year old son. You must believe you have a LIFETIME with your child <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

What Dottie said - I honestly can't think of one instance where we didn't do anything growing up because we had CF. And there isn't anything that I do differently now in my own life.
