Good CF snacks?

lol not dumb questions. It's good to learn. As for the salt, CFers sweat 10X as much salt as healthy people, so we need to eat a lot in order to have enough in our systems (yes there is such a thing as not enough salt). lol
The fat and calories and such... the natural enzymes in CFers don't work correctly... so we don't absorb all we eat. It's hard for us to gan weight, and therefore, we tend to eat more calories and fat in order to make up for what we lose.

To add to the last comment...we also use up more calories just from breathing because its more work for a CFer just to take a breath.
For high calories there are some healthy high fat foods like avacados and nuts. I try to eat high calorie and healthy. Like avacados give you several nutritional benifits as well as high fat and calories unlike say chips. Just a suggestion to throw in some healthy high fat and cal foods along with the junk food. Dairy products are also VERY important (and pretty good fat content) because CFers tend to have weaker bones and are at risk for osteoperosis and osteopena (sp?)
Oh and one last thing on the cystic fibrosis foundation website (cff.org) they have a live web cast with dieticians explaining child and adult CF nutrition so if you want to check it out its under the heading on the right hand side of the page "live webcast" Okay sorry for how long this post was.

Oops, yes, Sonia. I meant Scandi-shakes. Thanks for your input. To the poster that gave us that wonderful link for cf recipes: THANK YOU! You all should check it out. These recipes look very good....now I'll have to remember to eat small portions. lol. Does anyone struggle with having fatty/salty foods in the house for your cf children? I have to use a lot of self control...especially with ice cream and chips!

if your kid eats some food with low calories let the kid eat it because theres this thing it has a few calories in it and you just sprinkled it on your kid's food and they wont taste it,its just like a calorie booster to help cf patients get a few more calories if they didnt get all their calories in the day process hope this helps

If you want to gain weight, a quick little snack with a TON of calories are those little pastries from gas stations. The apple and cherry pies are 79 cents and have 490 calories, 270 from fat and 54 carbs. Kind of a lot of carbs, so watch your sugar levels if you're taking insulin. When I need to gain weight, I eat one of those, a scandi shake and a banana, before bed. It's about 1,200 calories. Oh' and pop the little pies in the microwave for about 20 seconds and they are great.

Yup, those are the ones. Junk food with a TON of calories. I'm sure it's not the healthiest thing in the world, but it WILL put fat on you and if you eat something good with it, ie; banana, scandi shake, it's not so bad. Try it in the microwave. mmmmmmm...
