Hi I also get tightness in my right lung particularly where I have a collapsed upper lobe through the mac bacteria infection which caused a cavity. This has now collapsed down - cavity too I hope but not sure until further ct scan. It feels like there is an elastic band around it - not all day long but as soon as I cough a bit seems to start it off. I think it may be some scar tissue that is perhaps not as flexible as other lung tissue and takes time to re-settle. Also I feel it could be inflammation. My FEV is 45 so quite low. At nite I have had to undo bra straps to get some relief - also around the back is sort of dull ache as well. It is more the middle right lobe that aches more. I have widespread bronchiectasis - resulting I believe from a child of 4 or 5 I had pneumonia and also at about 19 and then pleuresy after having my daughter about 31ish. So prob lots of damage done. Also if I lay on my right side I find it harder to breathe so I dont. Nervous 1 - did you lobe re-inflate eventually?

I have bronchiectasis in my right upper lobe, lingula, and left lower lobe. Mine has been classified as moderate. I often get pain in my right upper lobe that flares up and starts to throb and then seems to wax and wane for a day or two, but not really what I would classify as "tightness". My FEV1 is anywhere from 85-94% depending on if I'm sick. I have cultured stenotrophomonas for about 7 years now and it causes me the most probs. Have also cultured staph, moraxella, acinetobacter baumannii....the latter two being nasty buggers!

Well, I have been searching for this post for a while, because I wanted more info about chest tightness, and remembered reading about it somewhere. I had a lot of tightness this summer becasue of the heat we had, but it subsided over fall, however it has come back now around the new year.

I have had two cases of bleeds, coughing up blood, and had extreme SOB and pain breathing in about three weeks ago. It improved after I took some tablets for SOB, but I also had tightness, like a rubberband around my chest, this has also improved also and now I am left with discomfort in my chest. I can only assume it's the bronchiectasis that's the culprit. Maybe scar tissue. I am also very sleepy these days, cannot get enough sleep.

How is everyone doing with their bronchiectasis?

Thanks

Gunhild

I have either mild or moderate bronchiectasis (lower right lobe) and last PFT was 109% about a week ago. Some people are mentioning tightening of the chest feeling etc.. I used to have that all the time and could not explain this to the doctors adequately. My new dr told me this is a symptom of asthma and I now nebulize albuterol. Since doing this the symptoms have completely abated and I have no tightness in my chest ever. Anyone else neb albuterol for this with the same effect? I used to have an inhaler and it didnt help AT ALL, only nebulizing.

I have had the tightness from asthma also, but I don't think it's the same kind of tightness. When I don't use my inhaler, I get a cough and not enough air, but the tightness I have with the bronchiectasis is more like a rubberband around my chest and stingings and discomfort...

Hi Gunelle:
that is my posted you've dug up.....sounds to me like with the hemoptysis episodes and the increased tightness and s.o. b.......seems like you are having an exasberation that is very irritating....i getthe burning feeling and extra tightness too, blood and sob....
was it oral prednisone you took for the sob....? have you been to your doctor to get on IVs to get it back under control? The more my *bxis spreads with uncontrolled infection the more constant discomfort i feel in my lungs. My dr. says lots of scar tissue will cause this type of tightness, its not relieved with a ventolin puffer like asthma is....
Let me know, how you are doing.!LIz

Hi there! Thanks for posting this thread.
Yes, I have mild bronchiectasis in my right middle lobe, right lower lobe, and left lingula. My FEV1 has been between 74% - 92%, usually on the higher end. Evidently I do not have CF, although the full Ambry testing has never been done.
For years I walked around with chest discomfort like you and others here have described. By the end of every single day my chest ached so horribly that all I could do was lay like a lump on the couch.
Hypertonic saline was the game changer for me as well. I wouldn't stop taking it if someone paid me to, and it took a lot of convincing to get the doctors to prescribe it.
