Hey guys, I received some very good news over the Christmas period!!
I have been accepted to run in the 2006 London Marathon in April. Having CF myself, this will undoubtedly be a real challenge.
I am, of course, raising money for Cystic Fibrosis, so if any of you would like to donate, here is my fundraising page. You can donate online:

www.justgiving.com/robertlake2006

If you have any pennies, please make a donation. Or if you want to, just laugh at my hardcore running pose taken from a recent run in October!!

Love to you all,

Rob

Congratulations! That is awesome! I also love running...I would love to do a marathon someday (if I could only find the time in my day to train!) Best wishes to you for the race and in the months ahead training!

OMG Rob.....that is awesome. Any chance you can get news/media coverage on you participating in it? It would be of a big help to educating people!

Wow,

Congrats! That is unbelievable. I'm so proud of you.
What was it that helped you get into this in the first place?

I forgot to say something...
You see, I look at people like you and that is where I get my strength from.

Wow, thanks for the encouragement guys!
I have a buddy who works for a local newspaper over here, so he's gonna write something for me with a pic. This should help with fundraising. I am also intending to write letters to various local newspapers myself, as well as my university magazine.
I started running last year. This will be my third marathon! I am running with a close friend in some sort of costume, but not sure which one yet. Any suggestions?
Christian, if you want some advice with running or whatever, just ask. Its been a great experience, the whole running thing. I really recommend having a go!!

Rob, That is so awesome. I am new here, so not sure if this is ok or not to share email addresses but I know someone that could really help you in this area. My Husband Troy has CF and has a brother that is the world record holder in running backwards. (long story) lol, anyways, Every race he is in, he dresses in costumes and has won sooo many awards. He is always in the paper for his outlandish costumes. I am certain he would even give you a great one of his. Most recently, he was sponge bob. He has quite a way for getting in the paper and was even on the Today show. Too funny. As you can imagine, since he loves attention, he would love to help you. BTW, my husband Troy ran a marathon as well with CF, I admire you both! imnguiness@yahoo.com His name is Bud and he lives in GA. I will email him and tell him you may be in contact. Good luck. Karen (Wife to Troy 37 CF)

I love it. Man, how I envy you! I say you dress up as Steve Jones, whatever he wore, and kick the butts of as many genetically perfect people as possible! You sound like a real fighter!

Thanks again for the encouragement and the fancy dress ideas. Karen, thanks for giving me your bro-in-law's contact details. Sounds like quite a guy. I will get in touch with him in the next few days to see if he has any ideas!!
