wikipedia reference below:

Proposals to use Nucleus Transfer techniques in human stem cell research raise a set of concerns beyond the moral status of any created embryo. These have led to some individuals and organizations who are also opposed to human embryonic stem cell research to be concerned about, or opposed to, SCNT research.

One concern is that blastula creation in human stem cell research will lead to the reproductive cloning of humans. Both processes use the same first step: the creation of a nuclear transferred embryo, most likely via SCNT. Those who hold this concern often advocate for strong regulation of SCNT to preclude implantation of any derived products for the intention of human reproduction. [11], or its prohibition.[12]

A second concern is the appropriate sourcing of the eggs that are needed. SCNT requires human eggs, which can only be obtained from women. The most common source of these eggs today are eggs that are produced and in excess of the clinical need during IVF treatment. This is a minimally invasive procedure, but it does carry some health risks, such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, and in very rare instances even death.

GREAT!!! Thanks for the posting anon. It's good to know that I can count on Australia to find a cure since my home country (U.S.) could care less.

the expression is "couldn't care less".

if you could case less, then that means that you care, even if it's a tiny but.

if you couldn't care less, you care so little that it's impossible to care even less than what you already care.

Anyone who's against stem cell reaserch has be against IVF. They both end up with a 'life', if you believe in life beginning at conception, being destroyed. I just find it humorous how people can hate stem cell research, and then push for IVF for infertile couples. I don't care what your positon is, as long as it's consistent.

As Steve once said, those who oppose stem cell research shouldn't be allowed to reap the benefits, if they ever come.

I think that's awesome. I personally think that stem cell research has a lot of possibilities, Especially in regard to parthenogenisis. Which, Does NOT involve fertilizing an egg, but stem cells are still able to be grown and harvested. It is completly disregarded as a possibility because it is labelled "Stem Cell Research" and it is assumed to be embryonic. Ridiculous.

I see the ethical questions regarding "true" embryonic stem cell research. But not the parthenogenesis. Just another one of those things wrapped in so much red tape because of the automatic stereotyping affixed to the word "stem cell" that you can't actually see anything about it.

Be well.

Thank you Allie. That's how I feel. If it is ok to create a life in a lab that may have never existed, then what is wrong with destroying it. I'm so sick of people with such mixed up views! Either you agree with both or disagree with both.

As for those of you that attack me, I really don't care!!!!!!!

If you ARE living each day with CF like me, you might think differently. Personally, if you don't live with CF or another terminal disease that you have to deal with 24/7, you have NO idea!!!!!!!!!! To me this is the CHANCE for life or certain death. If you can't understand that than you may need the heart.

I voice MY OWN OPINION! If you like it - great! If not, I'm sorry but that is how I feel. I personally would not do IVF; however, I would support a couple that may decide to do it. Everyone is different. Everyone has different situations and reasons. Who am I to judge?

I think IVF is similar and I understand your point. Both produce an ethical dilemma. I do have cf and understand the hardships and I am not for embryonic stem cell research. As I said before, embryonic stem cell research has not proven effective, whereas adult stem cells have. I don't think we need to even cross that bridge.

Thank you jfarel for your opinion. I totally respect your views. I just hate being attacked for mine from others. There is a way to do it tastefully and distastefully.
