GOT A COLD, give me your best advice

Of course, now that its fall, we all have the back-to-school cold. Time to break out all the tricks. Josh usually get sinus infections. Jesse gets a cough.

What's your best advice to avoid having your cold go into something else?

Be sure to wash hands frequently with hot water and soap to keep from passing the bug round and round. Hands should be in the water being scrubbed for approximately the length of time it takes to hum "twinkle twinkle little star" to yourself.

Whenever I feel a cold start to come on I take an airborne and I honestly havent had a cold in about 9 months since I started doing that. I swear by it!

How is this a helpful or constructive comment? Amy, either
you didn't read the post that they are already sick or you are just
about the least sensitive person in the whole world.
I realize you are educated, but class is something you might want
to work on.
Jane, try airborne, I too, find that it is helpful. Also,
cold-eeze is a great product...since cfers are deficient in zinc
(as is being investigated by cff trials right now) this product
can't hurt.
If you want to get really wacky...peaceful sinus by Klearsen.
Hope y'all are feeling better.
sorry for hijacking your post.
Amy-
I don't want to block your posts...I think you are so smart and I
am eager to see what you have to say about many things.
I just would encourage you to KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE....treat
parents of young sick cfers in a different manner.

Being proud of being insensitive is very unnerving to me.....my
guess is that you have a heart of gold and you have it very
well protected....

I agree I do need to calm down...I just care about these mom's
feelings and how scary it must be and I want to fight for them....

my mom is a mom of a cfer too...
I had high pfts my entire life until i got abscessus....your
perspective changes when you get ill...your parents perspective
changes when you get ill....
i'm not lecturing you.....i'm trying to get you to be a little more
sensitive, but clearly, i am an idiot.
Thanks you guys!

Amy: Yes, the kids ARE already sick.

There are people who ONLY wash 9 times a day? wow

Mandy: Airborne is THE BEST stuff! I took it all last year and didn't get a cold. This time, I just didn't catch it on time. The boys think its gross.

Prussian: Should the kids drink that much caffeine? Does green tea have less than black tea?

I always take 500 mg. vitamin C 3 times a day, sometimes 4 . Drink lots of liquids and chicken soup is always good and soothing. For a sore throat, i gargle with mouthwash 3 or 4 times a day also, sometimes more.

Green tea has less caffeine than black tea.
Actually, as far as anti-oxidants go, white tea has the most
anti-oxidants and it has the least caffeine out of all of
them. You can not do better than white tea.

corriander seeds boiled in a saucepan on the stove until the water goes the same colour as tea.

strain the seeds and drink the liquid just as you would tea (straight, no sugar or milk LOL)

drink as much as you can tolerate, you will find that it wont taste too bad until you start feeling better!

I'm pretty sure its an indian remedy, My sister picked it up when she was at uni, and I have used it ever since and it works fast!

good luck with the cold!

edited to add: forgot to mention the seeds can be reused until you boil them and the water doesnt change colour

i sniff a high quality peppermint and eucaliptus sp? oil
continously also i use vicks vapor rub which always makes me feel
better, take lots and lots of vitamin c and echnichea pills and if
it is a really bad head congestion, i boil water with peppermint
leaves . i hover over the steam with a towel over my head and
breath as much as i can stand, but get a really hot shower, rub
vicks on chest after shower, dress cozy, then get in the warm bed
and the nest morning , you will feek better!!!

My advice would be:

Avoid sugar, brings your immune system down, not the time to be eating alot of sweets, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and take lots of vitamin C, and don't forget all your other vitamins too.....get plenty of rest, and relax.

My suggestion is lots of fluids, tons of extra rest, and maybe some
cipro so it won't spread from sinuses to lung (mine always did best
to catch it early), o yeah and hand sanitizer or hand washing even
if they are already sick. Make sure they get there flu shots
too!!!! I get mine yearly and have never had the flu!!!! I would
try keeping everything a little cleaner too and as much as kids
hate it if on has something the other could catch seperate until
you can get it under control. One more thing... I know it sounds
weird but when I have a sinus infection or a stufy nose and I can't
find anything to work I hold my albuteral treatment and inhale it
through my nose... I really works after about 3 treatment (one
day)

Hope they get better

* FYI best over the counter sinus med is chloratabs (get at
walmart) and some vicks vapor rub.
