So I was hoping NOT to have to use the Port for a while, but it looks like Doc will put me right back on IV's when I see him Wednesday. I was feeling great, like really awesome, before the surgery. Hardly coughing at all, more energy, just generally good! Then I had the surgery last Friday and ever since, have been coughing up a storm. I did feel like I had bad allergies/a cold a few days before the surgery. So I am now wondering whether it was really a cold and it is just running its course. Or if I am having a lingering effect from the anesthesia? It not general anesthesia, but I was still pretty much out of it (fentanyl and versed)...I don't know.

I am just SO ANGRY! I haven't even had any pain from the surgery! I have had a bit of discomfort from the tape, but no pain! And I have been taking motrin, my sinuses have been worse than the port surgery incision. But yet I cannot stop coughing...GRRRRRRR.

Oh man, sorry to hear that you're sick again. I know we were kind of in similar boats but I still haven't taken the port plunge yet. If you do end up on IVs this week, let us know how you like the port vs piccs?

I wonder if you caught something in the hospital from the time you were in to get the port. It doesn't take much. Someone with the sniffles = full blown IV session to us. =\

Hope you can kick this to the curb fast and start feeling great again!

Boo Caitlin, that stinks! On the plus side, the IV thing should be a whole different experience now, not near the ordeal it was before! They'll pop that needle in and you'll be ready to go! It was so weird for me the first time we used my port. I was just in awe of the fact that it was that simple and we were ready to go.

I'm really sorry you're sick though and I wish you would have more time between IVs! I don't know about you but anesthesia (even tho it wasn't general) can REALLY take it out of me. I wonder if you didn't have a little something going in and then the procedure and anesthesia just really took it out of you and gave the virus (or bacteria) a window to take hold.

I'm glad you're incision isn't bothering you, especially with all the coughing. Mine was quite sore for a while, especially when I coughed.

Good luck to you and let us know what they say on Wednesday!

Take care,

Autumn

What a bummer I hope the cold/coughing passes quickly! On a little bit of the bright side, at least you have the port now, IF you do have to start I.V.'s again. I hope you like the port and it's easier for you to use VS the picc. I understand it can be very frustrating. Keep us updated.

hugs to you
