Gray spot on infants new teeth?

My 11 month old has 2 teeth on the bottom and 2 more coming on the top sides. The two on the bottom have gray spots on them.Wanting to see these others when they pop through!

I asked the CF doc the other day when we were there and she had no answer, just dismissed the question, really. Jordin wasn't really cooperating in her seeing them after already getting cultured )

I looked around and I am finding that it comes from either multi-vitamins w/ iron in them or even augmentin. Jordin is taking iron since she had abdominal surgery. I am just wondering if the spots mean she has too much iron?

We finally got to take her off Ursodiol at our last visit, ONLY cuz I asked about it since it hasn't ever been adjusted. They didn't realize the GI doc wasn't following us anymore, so called and he said she could go off and have a blood test in a month to make sure it's okay.

Then I wanted to know about her iron...doc said let's do one at a time. Which I understand, but if this iron is affecting my daughters teeth and she doesn't need it...WHY do I want to keep giving it to her. I really don't see why she would still need it?

So, do you think it is safe for me to make the call myself and at least give it every other day or something, cut back and hopefully in two weeks at clinic we can go off completely. I just hate to see her teeth coming in stained/spotted (

Anyone else's child have this or take iron?

Thanks for any advice.

i don't know about it being the iron, but i know antibiotics can do it. It can strip the enamel, which causes discoloration. My oldest was on a lot of antibiotics when he lost his baby teeth, and when the permanent ones came out, they were discolored. my youngest sister had ear infections with tons of antibiotics as kid, and the same thing happened to her.
