Just wondering if yall participate in the Great Strides in your community. Also....what do yall do to raise money? We have been doing it for 3 yrs and we just send out personal letters to friends and family. Giving them a quick update on Reeces' health and the lastest on the foundations findings on new drugs etc. We have been somewhat successful doing it this way, BUT I was looking for other events etc. Something easy and something ppl will acually participate in. Thanks for the ideas in advance!!!!<img src="i/expressions/angel_ani.gif" border="0">

My family and I particpate in something like this - it could very well be the same, but I think its called the Walk for a Cure. We simply go door to door, ask friends, family and co-workers for donations.

Hi Leah,

You can pretty much make anything into a fundraiser. Last year we did a yard sale, getting rid of stuff we didn't want , kids toys etc. Some of our neighbors even brought over items they didn't want anymore for more stuff for us to sell. Lemonade stand(our neighbors did this as well last summer) it made a couple hundred dollars. You could do a bake sale, get helpers though, you can not do this yourself. Some companys will match employee donations to the CFF. For example, Verizon matched a friend's donation. So did Monster.com, you only have to ask.

This year I was thinking of doing something at a restaraunt. I'm just not sure where to start. I have a couple aquaintances that own restaraunts. Perhaps , do fundraiser for CF, people pay a set price for dinner.. Do some sort of silent auction,,perhaps have merchants donate items to auction on. I want it to be fun. I feel that lately most people i know are financially strapped so to make the fundraising perhaps more creative this year. Our family tends to donate to the CFF each year irregardless of what fundraising we do.

I'm open to ideas as well.

Rebecca(mom to Sammy 7 no CF and MAggie 3 with CF)

Some restaurant chains have fundraisers. We did one two years ago -- they provide the dates and "coupons" that indicated with any purchases made on those days, they'll donate 20% to your cause. Customers had to have the coupons in hand when they went to the restaurant and they could only be on the days they decided. We did okay, it's just the date they chose happened to be on a monday night during spring break, so it was hard to gather the troops.

One of our grocery stores does a fundraiser where they provide a gas grill, sodas, buns and brats and on a saturaday you can sign up to sell brats to customers over the lunch hour for a couple of bucks.

Last year my SIL's coworkers held a factory bake sale with all the proceeds going to the walk.

I hate fundraising, so I stick to the letterwriting campaign and online requests for donations. DH just keeps a list of everyone who asked him for money over the past year for fundraisers -- boy scouts, athletic teams... and says, I sponsored you or your kid, so it's your turn. If they don't donate, he won't donate to their cause next time and he lets them know.

Last year, Kaits school did a hat day for CF, students could wear a hat to school for $1 and teachers could wear jeans for $2, i also sell home interior candles throughout the year and the profit goes to CF. This year i think that we are going to do a fundraiser at Pizza Hut and my volenteers will work, i think that it is 20% of sales goes to fundraising event, we plan to have a bake sale and a raffle during this event. One of my walkers is donating a Creative Memories Scrapbook, another will donate a Home Interior Picture, I am going have a few crafts there ( wooden chair, bench and shelf ) and Longaerger Basket and hopefully i will get other items to raffle off.

Fundraising can be difficult but we do the best we can, just remember everything counts!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know alot of people who have buisnessess so I will be seeing if they will sell the shoes for the walk. I am really excited about this and can't wait!!

We do the following things to raise money:

1.I am a teacher at a High School and I am a sponser of a school club and I recruit all my students to do all kinds of things like sell suckers, do class by class coin collections and etc.
Our family also has a team and this year we are going to do a store front collection and a street collection...I will let you know how well that went, it is on April 1st.

2.My family also sets up jars with our daughters photo and story and asks local businesses we trust, to set the jars out by the register.

3.The last thing we do is the letter campaign, you can get letters already written, you just change the name, on the Great Strides website.

4.My husband was in a Fraternity in college and he has the full support of the fraternity every year, they even changed their philathropy from The Red Cross to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in our daughters honor. So, all their fundraisers for the year go towards the CFF in her honor.

Good luck everyone!

We mostly just have our team get donations and I send letters out. I'm a teacher too, the best thing we ever did for GREAT STRIDES was have a "kiss a pig" contest at school. For a week the kids could pay to vote for a teacher (a dollar a vote). The top teacher had to kiss a pig on the school's daily video announcements. It was great!!!
