Great strides fundraising ideas

Hello,

So now that Weston is two and I can see him being an adult sooner than I want him to be, I am starting to get concerned about how he will react to me using him as a fundraising tool. So I am trying to come up with other ideas to get more people involved without having to do school donations (even though I still am doing a fundraiser at my daughters school this year and may still in the future). I figured I would post this on here so we could all exchange ideas. Here are some that have worked in the past or that I have thought of doing...

I am going to hand out brocheres for the walk at my Weight Watchers meeting. I think this may be successful.

My MIL did a letter writing campaign for her neighborhood (she lives in a suburb type setting and had something like 60 neighbors). I will do the same this year I think although I don't have as many neighbors.

The CFF here has come up with pin-ups (roses) that you can ask store owners to have their customers donate a dollar and sign there name (a lot of chain stores do this for the Jimmy Fund and so on)

Any other ideas to share?

My husband's work is going to do a "Jeans for Genes" day and everyone pays $5 to wear jeans to work. It should add quite a bit to our team fundraising.

I'm also going to see if I can get the local subway or pizza place to sell the pin up roses.

I'd love to see what others come up with.

I'm really glad to see there's a flurry of GreatStrides and other fundraising ideas getting talked about.

We did two fundraisers in 2007. The first was a variant of GreatStrides which we called HistoricStrides for CFF. Our historical re-enactment group (Ancient Celtic Clans) hiked 8 miles in the Adirondack mountains, over 2 days with only the equipment used in by the Celts in 400BC. Our PR and sponsor drive for this event was not up to snuff so it didn't do too well. <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.celticclans.org/stridesblog">http://www.celticclans.org/stridesblog</a>

The second fundraiser we did was a tool auction. A close friend of ours had started a medical/college fund for Keira (our granddaughter with CF) and he decided to auction off his extra woodworking tools to "seed" the fund. He took photos of all his tools, and simply posted a message on his favorite woodworking forum. This worked FANTASTICALLY well. Many times people replied that they didn't even want to bid on anything but just make a straight donation. Other people offered some of THEIR tools to cause to be auctioned off too!

We plan to continue doing both fundraisers in 2008. For HistoricStrides we plan to contact the media, and hiking corporations such as EMS, Vasque, Merrill, and ClimbHigh, as well as placing fliers in Celtic stores and our workplaces.

Since my wife and I are blacksmiths, we're going to hand make the woodworking tools, as well as 65 steel roses (<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.oakandacorn.com/rose.html">http://www.oakandacorn.com/rose.html</a> for the auction.

I don't really have any ideas, as this will be our first year of doing Great Strides, but I had a question: How do you get the pin-up things for stores?? I would love to do this!
