great strides walk question

we are signed up to do the great strides walk in my dd's name. im wondering if any of you have done one before? i wanted to walk with my dd (inthe stroller) but im not sure if she is allwed in because she has cf. she is still in a carrier so we could cover her completly between the carrier canopy and the stroler canopy.

also instead of walking i thought it might be nice if i set up an "easy up" canopy with a tble of drinks and juice and snacks and shade for our team. is that ok? do they provide all that stuff for us? (meaning would it be a waste for me to bring my own) would they let us set this stuff up?

im going to call and ask but im not really sure how to contact the person in charge short of contacting great strides HQ..

anyways any info would help. thanks!

We bring ds, only prohibition to attending is if you have cepacia. DS rides in his stroller. Now that he's older and not exclusively confined to his stroller we keep an eye on him to insure he maintains a good distance from the other kids wcf -- told him this year he probably couldn't play at the playground at the park in case there were other kids wcf, but we'd take him to a park afterwards.

They usually have beverages and breakfast foods provided -- granola bars, donuts, cereal, breads and then pizza or subs for lunch. I usually stick to the wrapped stuff and avoid anything like a box of donuts that everyone digs in.

Just call the cff office or email them and they'll put you in contact with the rep for the walk. My MIL and her sister don't walk, they usually help serve food, help with registration, visit with some of the other people who stay behind.

If you go to your great strides page on the left is a tab for "contact us". Whenever I've used it someone from our local chapter has gotten back to me. I'm not sure about other walk sites but at ours they have a tent and offer drinks, snacks and a light lunch afterwards, along with music, chinese auctions and 50/50. We take our son and they have the CFer's all wear leis to identify themselves and help keep the 3 foot rule. I would definitely check with your local chapter.

hope this helps.

We always have tons of drinks and food at our walks. Not only at the main site but in little stop places along the way they hand out water and vitamin water.

As for bringing you CFer, I don't but some do. When everyone is hanging around in the beginning and end, most of those with CF wear masks (ugh -- that is sooo hot and uncomfortable for them). If its just in the stroller, you should be fine, but as she gets older you may want to change your approach.
