Great Strides Walks

Hi everyone,
It has been so long since I have been to a walk but my family and I are going to be doing it this year. When I did my first one yeeeeears ago, I didn't really have a lot of respiratory involvement. My biggest issues are within the digestive system. Now however both have pretty much an even playing field. I was curious of the types of precautions anyone else takes while at the walk. Do you bring a medical mask? Etc? I was debating on bringing a mask just in case because I've had an increased cough lately and I know I'll be coughing after walking for a while.
Any input would be great!

We avoid the food that everyone else touches or that isn't in an individual package --- boxes of donuts and cookies, pizza. Use hand sanitizer and wipes. We mostly stay outside. The indoor shelter is soooo small and so crowded if the weather isn't great. We actually have lunch afterwards at my inlaws house with all our friends and family.

Little different situation because DS is a child but we prefer he not use the adjacent playground with a promise he can use the one near my inlaws later that afternoon.

IMO, I'd take the mask. Some people don't practice the same level as cross contamination prevention, plus there are still a lot of bugs going around our area, so better safe than sorry.

I decline hand shaking anyone at the event. Of course, I have to explain why. Also when I get home I strip down and leave shoes for a few days in garage. This year I am a walk chair. I made sure the lunches are individually wrapped boxed lunches. Nothing needs served - not even the mayo which is in packets.

Thank you guys for your replies, I feel much more confident now and know what I should plan on doing. I didn't even think of half the things you guys listed as far as food and such.

When Jess participated in the walk this year they had those Leis that you can buy at the party store. only people with CF got them so they knew to keep their distance.
it was a very subtle way for them to know who had CF with too much embarrassment.

Yes I heard that they'll be giving out rose stickers or something like that this year for the CFers to wear on their shirts to distinguish who has it. I'm definately going to bring a mask though because I've had a bit of an increased cough lately and don't want to pick up or pass on anything to anyone else.
