Diane/Mandy you guys are bloody fantastic (excuse my french!!) seriously i dont know where i'd be without this forum sometimes!!
I have absorbed everything you have both had to say and here's the thing....i have in my cupboard of supplements both GSH (by TheraNaturals) and NAC by Young Again I believe) and currently am taking 2 x 600mg of NAC daily.
What I am wondering is should i be taking a combination of the two and if so, in what doses? Diane i think from memory you take about 1200mg of GSH a day correct? Mandy, how much do you take?
I've also decided that once i have finished my Pulmozyme trial about mid-June i will first start inhaling Hypertonic Saline and see what that does (not sure why but as when i'm well i don't produce much sputum i think HS is going to work really well for me), then after a couple of months of HS, i think i'm going to try inhaling GSH......that is only if the HS doesn't cause any hemoptysis problems for me.
Thanks again both of you, much appreciated <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">

Hi Kat.

The recommended dose for GSH (Dr Clark Bishop's protocol) is 66mgs per kilo, which equates to around 30mg per pound (for those who use pounds and ounces), I think.

I use the 66mgs per kilo for my son (he's 10), although I use less than this. SO...he should be on 38kg x 60mgs (say around 2400mgs a day). He's actually on 1800mgs (oral), plus I give him a 600mg capsule of NAC.

Many people use both, but I agree that the GSH is more likely to be helpful...others might say the NAC is better, but I think both, with higher amounts of GSH, because of the transport issue, it makes sense.

Here's someone's recent post about stopping GSH and going onto only NAC..

This is a little off-topic, but I've read so much on this forum about GSH and NAC, and I want to bring it up at my son's next clinic visit. I just want to see what their views are, and if they have any patients using it and what their experience with it is, etc. So... when you say NAC do you spell it out like N-A-C or pronounce it like a word -nac- ? Silly, I know, but I want to atleast know how to say it when I'm discussing it with the doctors!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0"></end quote></div>

If you want to read more about Warwick's view of NAC vs. GSH check out my blog. Under "categories" click "Warwick's letter"

Anybody got any articles that I could print out and take to my next clinic appointment to ask them about the GSH?</end quote></div>

You can reference Warwick's Letter... he carries quite a bit of credibility

In fact, my cf doc will not allow me to inhale mucomyst because he has seen so much liver damage from this drug...Mucomyst is NAC.
</end quote></div>

That blows my mind... I wonder how Warwick gets away with giving Mucomyst to almost everyone in his practice while avoiding liver issues

Chris -

Good job on this thread, my man. This is prompted a ton of great discussion.

And congrats on the improvement in PFT's. That is so exciting. I know you work hard at it....

I'm still looking forward to racing you at Great Strides on Saturday. My FEV 95 vs. your FEV 97.

Good luck old man :p

I take 1000 - 1500 mg. per day now. I started taking my full recommended dose 3600 - 4000 mg. per day for a long time, but couldnt afford ($) to keep up with it , so i weaned myself down from it. I am however going to up it to 1500 - 2000mg. a day i think, because it can only do me good. Although NAC can be helpful, it is the long route to go in my opinion. If the body needs Glutathione, give it Glutathione, not something that produces it, but cant put it all to proper use. But to each his own. I will say i have never tried NAC, so i dont know if it will have an benefits but with GSH i see no need to try it anytime soon. There are some that use both( GSH and NAC) in combination, so eventually maybe one day i will try that.
