GSH and my experience

This is a little off-topic, but I've read so much on this forum about GSH and NAC, and I want to bring it up at my son's next clinic visit. I just want to see what their views are, and if they have any patients using it and what their experience with it is, etc. So... when you say NAC do you spell it out like N-A-C or pronounce it like a word -nac- ? Silly, I know, but I want to atleast know how to say it when I'm discussing it with the doctors!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">

Thanku Mandy, i had no idea about the whole inflammation issue with cepacia....the docs over here are WAY behind treatments and knowledge in general, hence this forum is invaluable to me. I will continue to take oral NAC instead i think and i guess I shouldnt take any other supplements to try and actively reduce my inflammation either. I would never have known and assumed to get the inflammation down would be a good thing. So much for logic huh <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Like I said, it is just a theory...there is no evidence to back this theory up. Really, you have to look at the benefits vs. the drawbacks. I believe that glutathione and its precursor, NAC, can only help you in that your body has to be really deficient in this antioxidant for a very long time. Research shows that adults with cf ARE SEVERELY DEFICIENT in many of the antioxidants neccessary for normal immune function. My vitain c level was non-detectable (scary), coq10 was WAY below the low scale, cal-mag were both low, and my glutathione level was at 56 and normal is 200-400. Most chronic illnesses zap these and it is IMPERATIVE to give your body a fighting chance to combat your illness, bugs etc. I just posted a thread about the latest research on AIDS, TB and glutathione. This is a very important study because it proved that glutathione actully helped combat a bug. The gsh actually walled off the TB in an effort to keep it contained and from spreading. For s while there was some specualtion that glutathione would help a bug grow as glutathione is used by most bacteria and fungus. New research is proving otherwise. I was concerned about using glutathione at first because I have one of the dreaded TB bugs. I started using it three years ago and it has changed my life.

By taking gsh, you are allowing your body to have an even playing field. While NAC is important, it can not make enough glutathione to kepp up with your need...as your body is using glutathione much faster than it can produce gluathione from the NAC. <b> Keep in mind that cf is a glutathione export problem</b>. While you do have some cells that export gsh, most of yours do not. <b> So, you are taking NAC (which is good) but most of the glutathione that is made from NAC inside your cells is just going to continue and sit inside your cells. That is why glutathione is SO IMPORTANT!!! By taking glutathione you are getting in to the places it needs to be....plasma, surface airway lining in the lungs, the gut. </b>Some on this board will tell you OLD info that gsh cannot be absorbed by the gut. That is simply untrue....I tried both and my levels sky-rocketed on oral glutathione.

Also, NAC is dangerous in high doses...toxic to the liver...GSH is not toxic. In fact, the only side effect is diarhea in high doses...same as high dose vitamin c.

Talk to Diane about GSH and cepacia.....

Hope this helps.

I don't think you should avoid anti-inflammatories. Most likely, the inflammation is doing a lot of damage. NAC and GSH are not just anti-inflammatory...they have a mllion other functions which are important in making your body work correctly.

They help clean up the damage caused by constant cell death, they combat free radicals from doing more damage, the mediate inflammation....this means they help to get the inflammation in check. You have way too much inflammation...gsh will simply help it get under control...and help your system get the upper hand.

I don't know if you experience this, but if the docs put me on steroids they also put me on antibiotics so that my bugs won't grow out of control. <b>Steroids mediate inflammation because they effectively turn off your immune sytem...gsh controls inflammation while allowing the immune system to FUNCTION....that is the importance of gsh as anti-inflammatory......
