Zara and Sarah (sounds like a comedy team),

I'm so glad to hear that you think my posts are helpful. Why don't I do a blog? I don't know. Maybe it seems like too much work. Which makes no sense, since it takes me so long to write some posts here. Could be because I'm not that computer literate? Maybe someday.

I also have to use the search here to find my own posts too. I think one of the things I like best about posting is the interaction that everyone has with each other. Lately it seems like more and more people are making lifestyle changes and are seeing improvements in FEV1's just like Zara. I am happy to see, like Zara, other people are also discussing things such as inflammation with their doctors, as well as bringing them articles to open dialogues. It seems essential to have your doctors on board. And I'm happy to hear many peoples' doctors are listening to them. When suddenly an FEV1 shoots up out of nowhere, they have to pay attention.

About the face masks: I like the 3M Paint and Odor respirator. #8247 I found a box of 10 at Home Depot for about $20.00. You can also buy them individually in home improvement stores. It says carbon filter on the box. I always carry a mask with me in my pocket. Last June, I carried it through England and did not get sick -- a first for a big trip. I change them about once a month.

I use the masks for a lot of different purposes. If I'm out and a truck or a bus goes by, I cover my face. One time, I had gone to an air show (not a good idea for CF'ers anyway), and I was waiting for a shuttle bus. As I stood on line waiting to board, all the buses started up their engines -- and the next day I coughed up blood. If I go into say, a shoe store or anywhere where there is a strong fragrance -- I use it. I feel stupid, but I get tired of being sick.

I'll give you a tip for the day. In case you missed this one. When you are in the car, keep your windows up and the fan (AC or heat) on recycle air. You don't want to breathe in car exhaust from other cars.
