My daughter is 6 y.o and she had one put in about 6 months ago. It was a little awkward at first because she had a longer tube 6 weeks, it had to be bandaged up everyday, but after it was switched to the button it's been great. It's barely noticeable and shes gained about 10 lbs so far. I was totally against her getting it for a very long time, but after I see how much weight shes gained and how much healthier she's become I realize I made the right choice. Good Luck!!

I was REALLY reluctant to get mine, but once I did I gained almost thirty pounds. It hurts for a couple of weeks, but after that it's really a good thing, especially once you get a mickey or something like that. It's really not that bad, I would definitely recommend it. Also, you're only down for a few weeks, so I think you'll be ready to go by the time hockey starts up again.

My sons both have had their tubes for 5 years. In that time they have played basketball, baseball and tennis. They have done all the scout activities and all the phys ed sports in school.

As soon as you heal, you can do everything as normal. Its sounds weird to have a tube sticking out of your stomach- but its really not like that. Here's a link for a mic-key style button:

My daughter has had hers since she was 1 day old. The mic key button is big on her, but I have seen it on older children/adults and you can BARELY notice. You wouldnt know you even had it with clothes on. It makes things so much easier for you, you dont need to worry as much...and we all know anything that can help us worry less is good.
My daughter had a feeding pump that runs at night, and then sometimes throughout the day I put the rest of her bottle through her g tube. Its very quick and fast, I get stares in public if I do it in public...but they of course are just curious to what the heck I am doing to my duaghters tiny little tummy hehe.
I am a young mom, 20 years old...if you want someone to talk to...or have any questions, i am here to talk.
