H.Pylori

Are pwcf at risk for picking up H.Pylori? It is the bacteria found in people stomach's who have ulcers. Wierd question but my daughter's friend has a daughter who has GI issues(not CF), is this something people with Cf need to worry about as i guess lots of people in the general public have it and don't know it. But this little girl does have it and we know it. I guess I could ask my daughter's Cf doc but i thought i'ld run it by this group. I was thinking of watching this little girl with my daughter(with Cf) to make a little extra money about 10 hours a week. We could use the $ but of course I would not want Maggie to pick up any bacteria.

Thanks,
Rebecca(mom to sammy 7 no CF and MAggie 3 with CF)

Wow what a great question! I can only guess what the answer may be.
H. Pylori is a bacteria associated with gastric ulcers and is
treated over here by prescribing a course of three different
antibiotics and then the person get re-tested to ensure they
no longer have the bacteria. I have never heard of H. Pylori
colonising in the lungs of someone with CF but with CF I guess
never say never.<br>

If it helps, my mother had a long standing problem with gastric
ulcers and was treated for H. Pylori for some time, we all lived in
the same household and no one in the family became ill with the
bacteria (I am the only one with CF in the family). Only tip: stay
clear of any vomit <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

I did have H. Pylori and it was treated with the three antibiotics as well called a Z pack or something. I don't believe that it can be passed from person to person or that someone with CF would be more likely to get it. I would definitely ask the doctor to make sure though.

I had H. Pylori several years ago and it was horrible.  I feel
bad for the little girl that has it.  I remember the dr
telling me I couldn't give it to anyone else.  But...I hadn't
had my daughter at that point so I didn't ask specifically about CF
and H Pylori.
