Hello,

I was tested postive for the h1n1 flu and I am on IVs Zosyn every 6 hours and Tobramycine every 24 hours. My x ray thursday showed pneumomia in my left lung and my dr said h1n1 more than likely started that.

The pain I am having is so bad I can not put it into words. If you have had h1n1 could you give me some advice or tell me what you did to get through it I know we are all different but we do all have cf so maybe a little something will help me..

Thank You in advance,
Melissa

I have not had H1N1 *yet* but wanted to tell you that I'm sorry you're in such pain & I will be praying for you.

If you're currently doing home IVs, I would not hesitate to ask to be admitted if you feel it is necessary. That may relieve some of your fears; just knowing that you have medical help at the push of a button.

I hope you start to feel better soon!

Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad.

Although my flu test came back negative, I became sick about a month ago with something that had identical symptoms to H1N1. A few days into it, an X-ray also showed I had pneumonia.

After almost two weeks of IV Zosyn and oral Zyvox, I was feeling better but still not well at all. Finally they put me in the hospital briefly in order to do a bronchoscopy and clean out the gunk that apparently wasn't coming out. Afterwards, I began feeling a lot better within a few days.

It was about three weeks from the time the whole thing began until I really was feeling pretty much back to normal. The only thing I can recommend is lots of rest and not trying to get back to your normal schedule too quickly.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

I agree, I agree, I agree.
Those that ended up with the worst complications due to h1n1 were often those who had infections like bronchitis or pneumonia who went south really fast and didn't get help in time- so if you are having symptoms that are not 'typical' for your exacerbations, please don't try to go it alone. With this flu it's so much better to err on the safe side. I hope you are feeling much better very soon.

My daughter had h1n1 and despite a round of Tamiflu somewhat blunting her initial symptoms, she still wound up with a secondary bronchitis (she experienced chest pain too although not to the degree you describe) and it took her longer to get over than her typical bronchitis infections do. Only now, three weeks after getting sick she's finally over her cough and eating normally again... I see Jana posted the same for her recovery time. This flu is just nasty.
