I posted earlier in the year about having problems swallowing and my food getting stuck, well I finally done something about it and got tested.

I have a hernia in my esophogus and a ring (narrowing in a section of my throat). So the doc put me on Omeprazole to bring the inflamation down. If that doesn't work then he will take me off of bactrim and ibroprofin. He also said if it doesn't go away then I will need to have a scope done, eek!

I hope the pill works cause Im not looking forward to having a scope done.

I am having the same problem swallowing and food getting stuck. It normally happens when I eat meat. I told my doctor about it and they had no idea what was going on. My doc put me on Omeprazole twice a day and it hasn't affected it any. I was scheduled for a scope but chickened out. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

It would probably be best to get it done, so you can find out what it is thats causing the problem. If the doc says I need one, Ill do it, I wouldnt know what to expect, but I can only imagine it being uncomfortable.

So far, crossing fingers, this has only been my second day on the new med but I haven't had any problems swallowing, I do have a little burning, feels like heart burn, but other than that, all is good so far.

I don't have CF, but I can tell you about the scope.... I've been having a lot of breathing issues. AFter ruling out asthma, axiety, and everything else they could think of, my doc sent me to an ENT. I explained everything and 5 minutes later he rolls in a machine to scope down my throat. He sprayed afrin in my nose, gave it a few minutes to numb down...then he went through my nose down to my throat. It was done in 25 seconds. seriously. It was uncomfortably during, but not painful. It left a horrible taste and gave me a scratchy throat for about a week. But I had answers immediately. My larynx was getting destroyed by acid reflux. He put me on Dexilant (stronger than Omeprozale) and on a no-acid diet and within 2 weeks I was feeling a huge difference.

Don't be afraid of the scope. It really is minor compared to all the CF stuff you've dealt with.
