Haemophilus species?

I got a message from my daughter's ped's office that her throat culture showed Haemophilus species...no sensitivies yet; the PA(the one who know zilch about CF) freaks me out by leaving a message on my answering machine at 4:45 pm on a Friday of a holiday weekend that I need to call the office; then the nurse calls leaving another message a few minutes later that a prescription has been called to our local pharmacy for us to pick up; Mind you still I have no idea WHY!!!@! Called the office; PA left for the day..Nice. Talked to the nurse told me Maggie grew Haemophilus on her throat culture ; that the PA chekced with maggie's CF doc and they are going to treat. Course the sensities are not back couldn't possibly since it was a culture from 2 days ago. The nurse tells me; well they want to treat cause of her CF. I'm like I realize that(I am not a moron) I "ve been handling Maggie health care for what 6 1/2 years. I am a nurse myself; and btw quite educated on CF. Arg. I told her they need to run the sensitivites on her culture period. I call the Cf doc myself and get a better run down...I already started the augmentim(funny when that seems like no big deal when she's been on the big guns).... I told the CF office I want a repeat culture when we come in in less than 2 weeks... Maggie was getting better even before the anti's so hopefully this will kick it....Anyway, I was very upset about the way the pediatrician's office handled that call and I will let them know next time I'm there. To expect me to just start giving my daughter antibiotics with her history for some culture and have the PA leave for the day.. A REAL doctor would leave a cell phone where I could call back and have a conversation about my daughter and the culture report. Anyway, If anyone has had their child culture haemophilus I would appreciate any info...Maggie has never cultured it before.

Max cultured Haemophilus Influenza (HIB?) a few times and they never chose to treat it -- usually it showed up when he had a boogery nose. A couple time he was put on augmentin for a ear or sinus infection. Then when he turned 2 1/2 his CF doctor added zithromax and indicated what it was used for, mentioning it should also get rid of his H. Flu, which it did.

Maggie has been having ear infection problems since April, though I think it's getting better. Maybe this bug is the route of that cause. Liza, do they do sensitives on this bug? I think it bother me that we are treating it without the final report; or maybe the office isn't running a final report...

Univ. of Penn acted told me that htis was a typical bug that a non-cfer gets when they have a cold. They do not treat it as they consider it as non-threatening. THat being said, I'm sure it can set the body up to be more recept, more of a breeding ground, for pathagenic cf bugs like PA and staph. The time my son cultured it I did not see a sensitivity report but did see his staph sensitivity so this would lead me to believe maybe they don't run sensitivity for this bug...in which case I'd really wonder if you should be treating it. Maybe this is because it's a virus and not a bacteria. Abx only work against bacteria. What else showed up in her culture and why are you culturing through you ped's office and not your cf center. My son's ped regularly misses his MRSA.
