I can't recall what it was sensitive to or if they even did check. It didn't seem like a big deal to any of the doctors and the comment was made when he was put on zithromax that it should take care of that. He got 3 ear infections his first year and he always had a boogery nose during the winter months, I assumed it was normal until we went to his CF doctor in the spring who was concerned that it might go in his lungs and put him on augmentin for a month to clear it up once and for all.

With his ear infections, the doctor always insisted on putting him on amoxicillan first and then it wouldn't knock it down, so we'd end up going back for augmentin. He hasn't had an ear infection since right before his 1st birthday. I also seem to recall an adjustment was made to his prophalactic keflex that he'd been on since he was about a month old.

LouLou and Liza, Thank you for your replies. I am annoyed about the whole situation.. I plan on having them repeat her culture when we see her CF doc in June.. The ped office wanted to do a culture, I told them to send it to the CF clinic. They did consult her CF doc before putting her on the augmentum...Maggie was still coughing.SoI thought it was a reasonable plan..Plus she's had these ear infections having trouble clearing so maybe this will help once and for all... I don't think it is her MRSA acting up(hopefully)..The CF doc said they only treat the H.flu if the patient is symptomatic; and her CF doc knows her well so I do trust him. H flu is a bacteria; it can cause ear infections sinus infections and pneumonia; it's not a virus..Just what I learned when I googled it. You can carry it in your throat and be just fine; my guess she picked it up at kindergarten.

Rebecca, Given that they found the H. flu bacteria in her and that she's symptomatic I think it's great they are starting her on abx. If she gets any worse you may need to do something for the MRSA and PA (not sure she cultures PA) since just treating the H. flu may allow the others to rise up to power! I would think 3-5 days on the abx shouldbe enough time to see a major difference if it's going to work. You're doing a great job!

When DS was culturing it, I was a tad confused because Hib is something they vaccinate for, so wondered why it would show up. Then when I googled it, kinda freaked me out, as with most things -- I should just ask the ID doctor instead of panicking.
