I'll tell you what amazes me even more - the price of health insurance and prescription drugs. Your supposition that this person was indeed poor and was shilling for money to purchase the aforementioned necessities could well be true.

If he has CF I am sure he knows where to go to get some care - the issue may well be one of whether he can AFFORD it.

On the other hand he may just be a real stinker...

Well of course if he really was in need bc of Cf I'd feel terrible.....but I can't help but suspect he may be using it to get money. (I hope i'm wrong!!!)

It's so unusual. I've never heard of anything like that. I guess its possible though. Wow. Makes you think. I'm very grateful for what I do have, despite cf.

Here's the other thing-someone like that ,esp at 15 or 16-whether he really has cf or not, he's in need. A healthy kid doesn't wake up one day and say I'd like to be a beggar. Poor kid.

Here is a thought. When I was 18-19 I still looked 15-16. Do you think he's moved away from home or gotten kicked out & genuinely needs some assistance and is ignorant to the choices he has thru SSI, etc?
Possibly next time you (and a friend?) see him, you may want to stop & ask him what gives.
I'll bet there are some of us here that would send enzymes, etc. to him until he can get some assistance otherwise. If you offer enzymes & meds & he wants money instead then possibly that would indicate that something funny is up?
It's so hard to tell in these situations what's really going on.

I have to tell you.. if it were not for my dad.. I would be one of those ppl on the street corners begging.. or I very well could have been... I spent years before I had health inusrance in my 20s waiting on line all day at hospital charity care clinics just to see some doctor that could care less about me, that didn't listen to me, that had to see me if he wanted privledges at the hospital that he worked at.

I begged them for help because we didn't know what was wrong with me.... I would get handed prescription for the most expensive antibiotic that the drug rep was pushing.....and had no way to get it filled..

. I have health insurance now.., I make over 60,000 a year and I still don't get all my prescriptions and vitamins filled... and I have decent insurance and prescription plans.. IT is impossible.to afford it all. Unless you qualify for medicaid.. which I didn't and obviously now don't.. or unless you are a billionare.. ppl like me are screwed... If I want federal help I can't be a nurse or make any type of decent money.. I don't qualify for state cystic fibrosis help because now in theory I make to much money anyway.., all that to say

In all honesty who the heck knows what Cystic Fibrosis unless they have been affected by it some way.... I can think of so many better signs for that kid/guy to put up that ppl in general would have a much greater knowledge of and way more compassion for then CF.....

I feel like anyone and everyone should have the right to medical help so I am kind of a stickler on this topic...

I would love to help him in anyway I Could.. IF he has CF he will be grateful for any meds or support he can get...

Can you imagine if he really does need help, do you know what it is like to miss a dose of enzymes .. Holy crow it hurts like heck... I hope he was just being a jerk and scamming much more then I do to think he is without the means to get help..

Just Me PMSing,

Jennifer

So, I'm wondering if I were to stand in the middle of traffic in Downtown Osaka buck naked with a sign that says "Gimme a Job"? Or "Trick or Treat!" would work?

Ok, not buck naked, but to stand with a sign asking for a job would actually work...I can paste my resume on the sign!!

Using the 'CF' thing sounds like a good idea, but won't work over here! BTW, I miss those 'Bowl for Breath' campaigns. Maybe I just wanna go bowling, and that would be worth bowling for....

Good perspective Jennifer-appreciated that.
Its so true, if you're alone, a kid and have this illness what the h*ll do you do?

Like I said before, I think whether he has Cf or not he's got to be needy in someway-whether that's him being desperate for money, in need of mental help, or really having cf. Sad. There's so many like him. Gets me down thinking about it.

Sadly after the father who "faked" his child having CF it does put you into a different frame of mind. If he had CF & truly needed help I hope he got it. I will fess up on something that I have NEVER told anyone. When I was young a friend & I went around my hometown "asking for donations for CF". We had no intention of giving it to CF & received some $$ until a lady asked for a receipt. That ended that. Point being he could have been BSing also. Unless you seem him again & ask, we will never know!

I remember those. Way cool.

I've stood on the street corner and read poety for money a couple times. It was only because I ran out of money and I needed about ten dollars for bus fare so I could get to work throughout the week. If this kid is really poor and really has Cf, he's probably looking for money for food or gas or something. No way he's going to make the kind of money he needs for medication on a street corner.
