read online somewhere that certain lung function numbers can get your a handicap sign or plate. and i actually just saw a bumper sticker online for cf handicap parking spots.

has anyone gotten one? was it easy? what do you have to jump through to get one, or is it really just as simple as a doctors note?

I got one! It wasnt hard at all...all I needed was a doctors note and then brought it to the DMV and they gave me the sticker without any hassle...Its great for winter days and hot summer days too, but if I can park and walk I do it still while I am still able to...funny you dont hear people saying that with a handicap sticker avaliable to them whenever needed lol

i contemplated getting one, and wanted to know what it takes to get one.
id really only use it for exactly that, cold winter, or hot summer...
and i hate it at my college, im always fighting for parking if i have an afternoon class, and i always wind up at the very top of the parking garage. and i hate it, because by time im to my class..im ready for a drink, and a nap...lol its tiring.
if there were like 3 handicap spots total, like at some stores, id leave it open for someone who REALLY needed it..
but in the long run, i really could use it.
i feel weird going and asking my doctor for a note though...arent there limitations? like certain amount of air able to breathe out in a certain amount of time?

I just got one about a month ago and I mostly use it to park close at school or close to the store when I don't feel good. I think the DMVs classification is inability to walk 200ft without having to stop to catch your breath. I had no problem getting one, my docs wrote a note and I just sent it in.

I got one before I was listed for transplant because my lungs were crappy anyway and I would have had to walk from one building to another (outside) in the middle of a NY winter if I didn't get one. It was not hard for me to get one at all. I had to go to my town hall, get the paperwork, have my doctor sign it, then take it down to the police station and they gave me a tag. It was good for 5 years and expires next month. I have since had my transplant, and hardly ever use it (but I do admit, there are times that I do just because it's hard walking in crappy weather with a 4 year old). I'm not planning on getting it renewed.

I have a handicapped placard (sign) I got it about 2 years ago. It was so easy. Like some others said, just needed my doctor to fill out a form along with my application (may have been the same sheet) and mailed it in. I work at a shopping mall so it saves my butt a lot with crappy weather. You should have no problem getting one!

I would like one, but not because walking myself is difficult. Just when I am carrying stuff--like groceries, my 20-month-old. I am not even sure my doctor would write me a note for that. I do tend to dread running errands, with far away parking. And even sometimes put off getting prescriptions filled.
