Happy Easter!

I just wanted to drop a note wishing those who celebrate a very happy and HEALTHY Easter!(I wish the same for those who don't).

Just out of curiosity, I sometimes feel bad on holidays because although I might not do things at exactly the same time (wait until after opening Easter baskets for meds, etc), we don't skip any treatments on holidays. Does anyone here take a "holiday" from CF treatments (not enzymes, of course, but like CPT)? Before me Riss was used to getting a lot of "breaks." Sometimes she brings it up. I just don't want her to get the opinion that she doesn't NEED to do her treatments again. I want her to have the good habits that will keep her healthy long into the future.

Am I too much of a med nazi?

Take Care,
Terry

Terry,

I would not think that you are a med nazi. Even though Abby's only 19 months, we don't take a break because we're concerned about her developing good health care habits. It is hard. I can tell you that we don't do them at the same time and that we have cut the vest time by a few minutes if needed, but in general, if we are supposed to do two vest treatments, both happen. They just adjust to our schedule.

I hope you have a great Easter as well. DH and the girls are out of town this weekend, so I am enjoying a quiet Easter this year. A time of rebirth and renewal for me, so to speak!

Blessings on this special day!

HAPPY RESURRECTION & EASTER DAY!!!!

For us, we usually relax just slightly on treatments, however, we do 3 a day and 4 if his cough is up, so on a holiday I only make him do 2 unless he is ill or coughing a ton than 3 and all 4 if on tune-up status.

Try to look at it from the point of view that it isn't being mean or natzi like but it is what is needed for their health. Someone who has had a transplant would not skip meds or treatments on holidays, I mean a transplant other than a CF one. There is a little girl at church that has some kind of lung disease, that is NOT CF, and I know she will not be skipping anything today, she is going on the transplant list for new lungs this week. Sometimes we start feeling like we are being mean but we need to see it as we are being Great Parents, Loving, Kind, Helpful, because we are providing our kids with their NEEDS, unfortunately, this stuff is not optional. My friend once explained to a new parent at a conference that if you skip a treatment today or the meds you probably won't see an immediate effect right now today but we all know that if you skip enough treatments and meds that as they get older you will see a difference, possibly even shorten their life expectancy. And we may not even know that we had shorten their life expectancy by being lax, skipping a treatment or med here and there until we get to heaven and God says I wanted them to live to be 50 but they skipped to much stuff for Me to allow that to happen, not that I believe that He will ever say that to any of us. The point she was trying to make was that if we want our kids to have the best chance at life, we have to do our part and not beat ourselves up when we make them do stuff on holdiays and vacations, but at the same time, I think we should not beat ourselves up when something happens and there is no way to avoid missing a treatment for some reason or another when that is not the normal habit.

Celebrate our RISEN Lord today and do not beat yourself up with whatever decision you make, whether you do all the treatments and meds or decide to skip one.

Happy Easter!
