I had to stop when I started getting kidney stones because my dr. told me to stay away from oxolates which means I must exclude nuts, beans, soy, and leafy greens from my diet. I tried to stay vegetarian but I lost too much wieght. I don't know what to do! How do those of you on the gluten free dairy free diets keep your weight up? Does anyone else have problems with oxolates? I would love to become vegetarian or even vegan again.</end quote></div>

Something I have read about kidney stones:

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Instead of a diet (low oxalate) that restricts lots of nutritious fruits and vegetables, just increase the B6, preferably as P5P. Oxalic acid remains high as long as B6 is deficient.

B6 should always be given with magnesium, as increasing B6 increases the need for magnesium and sometimes bedwetting will result unless the magnesium is high enough.
</end quote></div>
This makes perfect sense to me since I have to take a lot of B-vitamins to stay well with CF and because so many of the drugs pwcf take depletes (or competes with) magnesium. Fevers, heat treatments, sweating at high rates -- all these things deplete B-vitamins.

I'm not a medical professional, but it seems to me that if you take the right vitamins to prevent kidney stones, you ought to be able to safely return to the healthy diet that worked so well for you before.

I don't eat a gluten-free, dairy-free diet so I can't help you with that question. I do eat less meat than the average american. Some of the stuff I eat is listed on my website.

Good luck with this.

Hey this is to Meleah I'm not sure how this works exactly but I am 5'6 21 and flux between 150-160 (male) anyways i alot less before i started weight training. I'm still searchin for an answer on improving lung capacity but as far as improving weight i've found scandishakes are ok i guess but what gave me weight was muscle training. Then stick to protein i do alot of whey and keep up the fatty acids (i do tablets of omega) .. then i eat meat when i want to or feel like it same with the scandi shakes but i have 110+ grams of protein a day with greens and i can monitar my weight by my amount of physical activity/protein and meat intake. I know your not lookin to bulk up but you wont unless ur takin anabolics and the heavy breathing while working out naturally somewhat improves lung functions. Anyways hope that somewhat helps .. just what i do talk to ur doc first but whenever im not feelin well its cus ive started to slack in physical excercise and then i have to start takin supplements ... if you wanna chat about excercises or whatever let me know (ps most say half your weight should be around the amount of protein you take in so in your case close to 60 but with cf its 3/4 so like maybe 90 and if your workn out maybe 95 ... monitar how you feel and go on that and check with ur doc all that blah blah <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">)
PS anyone whos reading this and knows anything further on the Accupuncture, Reflexology, Qigong, Tai Chi or Foreign Countries CF healthcare please hit me back
