It's also one of the main ingrediants of Seven+. (see my link at the bottom.) I take it, it's great. I have a lot less fatigue. Seven+ has acai, gac, noni, goji, seabuckthorn, mangosteen, fucoidan, PLUS: aloe, blue agave, blueberries, and grape, all in structured water.

There are several "affordable" juices available with acai berry as well (in the juice section at grocery stores). I don't know how these compare nutritionally to the more expensive versions though! A friend of mine (no cf) was using Mona vie and saw good results (better sleep, more energy & overall better mood), but he couldn't continue due to cost. I take a gel cap (from Walmart, about $9 for a 2 month supply). I am hoping to improve my immune system because I tend to get several bad colds/coughs each year - my son is the one with cf, but every time I get sick, so does he! I have been taking it for about 2 months & haven't seen a difference yet (I'm already finishing up my 2nd cold this winter).

Considering that we are all be bombarded by Acai ads everywhere, I figured that this is the lastest "feel good" health drink being marketed. And somebody was going to make a lot of money. I remember when they were pushing "Noni" juice that you could only get through distibutors for $60 a bottle. Until Costco was selling it for $15.

So I wandered over to Wikipedia as Jade suggested. Hey, I want to feel good too. And what did I find?

The acai berry isn't that impressive. It is in the middle of the antioxident scale and the fat content is extremely high in saturated fats -- tha bad kind. The kind that clogs your arteries and is bad for your heart. Dr. Andrew Weil who is in the forefront of alternative medicine suggests healthy fats for CF people (actually he quotes another doctor in his book) like olive oil.

Better antioxidents are: enhanced pomegranete juice, blueberries or blueberry juice. And a lot cheaper too.

As for arthritis pain, also better and cheaper supplements. According to Wikipedia, Acai has a very mild Cox1 and Cox2 inhibitory effect. You would be better off taking fish oil complex with Omega 3s, a glucosomone condroitin msm complex, Zyflamend -- a combination of natural COX 2 inhibitors studied by Columbia University and found in any health food store (worked very well on tendonitis for me). I had very bad joint pain in my elbows, knees, neck pain, shoulders, hips --everywhere plus tendonitis. The pain is gone -- still have a touch in my knees when I work out (but that was due to injury).

I buy my vitamins discounted on-line at Vitacost.com, Vitamin Shoppe, and Costco. But any discount vitamin website that sells brands that you find in the stores is fine. Trader Joe's sells blueberry juice which is what my doctor recommends. They also sell pomegranete juice.

If you are still interested in Acai, I'd get it by a discount vitamin store or reputable website. I just thnk when we have to take so many drugs and supplements it is not necessary to pay upwards of $300 per month for a product sold through distributors only.

Goji berries, in my opinion, are much better (I see they are in dbtoo's 7+ drink). I did some research on them a while back, I think I have a link somewhere about them.
