Has this happened to you and if so, how often???

Hello,

So, with the recent bleed and decline in FEV1 (by about 5% in as many weeks), I'm starting to think it may be IV abx time again.

Here's how my last year has gone fyi:

IV abx from November until December for 5.5 weeks (just not getting better until that time... plus, they didn't take a culture at first, so i was on something i was resistant to for 2 weeks... grrrr - on a total of 4 DIFFERENT meds, 2 at a time for various weeks)

IV abx from May until July for 6 weeks ( on a total of 6 different meds over the 6 weeks - 3 at a time - lots of issues with resistance and adverse reactions. also developed severe pneumonia after 1 week of being on meds and appearing better. still an oddity.)

Now, 5 weeks after ending my last 6-week course of meds, I'm starting to feel super rundown. My WBC is super high for me, my nutrition is down, the recent bleed, the move and stress of that, etc. I'm also not coughing AT ALL. As in, if I didn't huff and puff (and even sometimes then), I wouldn't get a thing up all day. And, when I do cough, I rarely bring anything up. Is this a good or bad sign? I'm thinking bad if FEV1 is down. ya? Also, sob with activity and just plain lethargic (could be depression and stress and anxiety from our move though too... who knows)

Here is my question for you, and your experience cause I'm getting super depressed about all the IV abx lately and the fact I'm not getting well and staying well on them (even when I stopped after the 6-week courses, I never felt totally fantastic, it was just that after that long on tobra, etc., it may become toxic, so I went off it)...

How short is the shortest you've gone between IV abx treatments? I've NEVER gone 5 weeks (usually am 6-12 months) and its really scaring me. I'm also wondering if I'm overreacting with the no cough thing and maybe I'm just under a lot of stress??

Is it worth going on IV abx at this time "just in case" its time, even if I just got off them? Please, can someone put my mind at ease about this? What would YOUR doctor say in this situation?

I used to be really anal about not going on meds unless I was really sick cause of resistance, but at this point, I just want to feel better from the meds if/when they find a combo that actually works for me!!!!

Thanks, guys...

I can't remember how long it was in between my IV abx in weeks, but it was within 8 weeks 3 times in a row when I was pregnant. I know you're not pregnant, but basically you sound exhausted and run down. Who wouldn't need a vacation after moving? I'm pretty sure that if my doctor didn't put me on IV abx, he would be monitoring me closely. How's your exercise tolerance? Upping your exercise (if possible) could boost your spirits and might up your FEV1. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi Sonia ,

I am sorry you are going through so much cr*p right now.. I know lots of ppl go through some really rough patches (admits one on top of the other) but many times they get through these bad patches & you will too...

Have you discussed all of this w/ your drs? Are you happy w/ your drs/clinic? Have they checked your vitamin levels? (you sound run down) Are you drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day ? Do you do hyper tonic ? (those 2 things help me to move the junk out) Are you seeing a therapist ? Maybe on an antidepressant ?

You have a lot on your plate & it can absolutely be overwhelming .. I hope you get some answers soon.. Please keep us up dated & God Bless you.. PM me anytime if you want to talk

I only had like 3-4 week breaks earlier this year. It's definitely a concern you should ask your doctor about, ask if there's other abx you can take instead of what they had you on last time. Like Joni said, are you on saline? Tobi? are you active? doing some airway clearance? It's likely bad not to cough, I have moments where it feels dry and really hard to get stuff up.
