You've heard the term, "My food went down the wrong pipe". Well, everyone does it sometime in there life, maybe once a year or two, but do any of you do this constantly?

It seems like I have been lately, and it hurts going down, sometimes it doesnt and I have to puke the little bit out that was stuck, so it feels like, so I would feel better. Sometimes pounding my chest a little, helps the food go down too. Ive noticed I do it a lot when I eat too fast, or maybe not chew my food up very well. Bread is the worst or dry foods like chicken or such. Swallowing really hard will do it too.

My quesetion is, do you guys experience this frequently, if so, what do you do to avoid it and what could it be?

I thought about reflux or maybe just swallowing problems, I dont knoe, so I thought Id ask you guys for your opinions, knowledge.

thanks

I haven't, but my MIL has. She does not have CF but the ring of muscles in her throat scar and cause her esophagus to narrow. She has something similar to an EGD and the remove the scar tissue; but it keeps coming back. Here is a link to some ideas of what it could be:

I have trouble eating chicken... it gets stuck in my throat on occasion especially if it gets a little bit too dry. I have to pound my chest sometimes.... gets me gagging.Yep, it hits me more when I am eating quickly or not slowing down to chew carefully. Hmmm.... something to ask the docs about next visit.

I have had to learn to slow down when I eat. I do better when I am eating alone and don't feel rushed by the family.

Jennifer, a haital hernia can cause what you're describing. It can even cause pains at the top of the stomach and the chest. Mention it to your doc/clinic.

I have had this problem as well. I used to be able to swallow more than one pill at a time, but now I have to do it one at a time or I gag.
