hi. i'm new to the board. my friend of 19 years has cf. she is 25 years old. over the weekend she was having very severe stomach pains and throwing up black and brown stuff. she went to the er and they gave her a shot for the pain but it wore off so the next day the on call doc told her to go back to the ER, they then admitted her and said the lower part of her stomach is not working, that it may be a blockage or something. thats all her husband told me. her sis told me today that they think it is cf related. i have tried looking it up but cant find much on the stomach problem. she lives in texas, i'm in oklahoma so i am just waiting on her to call. i feel so helpless. i'm just worried. i am trying to figure out what this could be or mean. is this normal, could it be nothing? do people with cf get these bad stomach problems at a certain stage of it? i dont know what else to ask just anything you guys may want to tell me or anything would be greatly appreciated. please take the time to let me know what it could be or what it may mean. i dont know what to look for online and i cant call her. thanks for your help. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

I'm not sure this is whats happening, but just wanted to let you know that people with CF do tend to have digestive issues. I hope your friend gets better soon.

Hi worriedfriend,

That's great of you to look out for your friend and do research for her.

A few years ago, I developed something called gastroparesis (this was about a month after I had an intestinal blockage). My stomach stopped working and wouldn't move food along when I ate. My symptoms were constant nausea and vomiting. The doctors put me on Reglan and Nexxium, and the problem worked itself out.

I hope she gets better and they figure things out.

Take care

Hi worriedfriend,

sorry about your friend. sounds like an intestinal thing everyone above is talking about. i haven't really heard about this in CF....most of our problems seem to be lung-related. if it's any consolation, it doesn't sound like it's something that the doctors won't be able to figure out. good luck to your friend and hopefully she'll be out of the hospital soon!
